Chat, WLS style.....Week of August 4th
Good early Monday morning. Coffee is on, hot and leaded. have a cup!
Well my Band Picnic/Preview Show went off without a hitch Friday night. Everything just fell into place, I was a little worried, mainly about keeping the drinks going, but it all went great. And.....I'm glad it's over. Now I'm down to ONLY chaperoning practices. I really do love it ya know! This last 39 pounds is going to be the death of me! But, I will beat it!! We have our Atlanta area support group Christmas Party on Dec 6th. My goal is to be rid of as much of the 39 pounds as possible. I want a nice dress!! Update on the saga with my son's car. The lady who hit him, her insurance company has upped the estimate repair. The owner of the body shop told us the estimate was very low and that this would happen. He also told us, it would take at least 4 weeks for the repair. Even when it isn't your fault you still suffer. Check in everyone and say hi! Wish peachie well......her surgery is next Monday. |
WHAT !! Peachie's surgery is MONDAY ??? Boy I miss everything.
Hey Deb !! Isn't it the truth, its always the ones who don't do anything are the ones who suffer... oy, go figure. My friend bought a brandy new GMC 4x4 beautiful truck, cost him almost $40k. 3 weeks after he got it he got broad sided and the damage to the truck was over $17,000..... he was sick, and who can blame him. Finally after 2 month he got his car back. Well nothing new here, the saga still goes on w/the weight. I am doing well on atkins though, I can't complain. You must be looking fab !!! with only 39 lbs to go. I'm so proud of you. Got any recent picts ? Well hugs to everyone !! catch you later :) Leenie |
 I'll be thinking about Peachie next Monday when I am out in Nanaimo. Maybe it will keep me pure!
|
Hey it is me!!!:D I know I have not posted in a while but life is so crazy some times!!!
Debbie that will be our goal to lose 39 lbs in the next 4 months! We can do it! Now that will give us both something to work towards and if you lose more than that is gravy!!! My youngest son (18 months) had several tests done on Friday and I am sitting on pins and needles waiting for the results. He has Spina Bifida and on a routine ct scan they found "normal cells growing in an abnormal place" his brain. So he had to have an MRI and that was more traumatic for me I think!! We get all the result on the 21st and the time is crawling by. My oldest son (16) started school today ! He drove himself in his car for the first time, it was like him getting on the bus that first day of kindergarten. My 7 year old son is being homeschool until October (when he turns 8) and he can be retested for special ed. He is significantly developmentally delayed and they wanted to put him in reg 1st grade last year, my son still does not read or write, so we did not want that and in Ga, you only have so long on a diagnoses. They retest at 8 years of age so we are waiting! And my last but loudest 2 year old son well he is just his usual self driving mommy and everyone around him crazy!!! So this is my life, Oh yeah I am down to 208 and counting!!! I can't wait to see 199! Good luck Peachie I will be praying for you!!! I know you will do great! Hazel:wave: |
Hello Everyone...
First off I would like to wish Peachie good luck with her surgery next monday. Seems like you never think the time will get here... and before u know it ... It's that time !! Sending prayers for your health and for the surgeons and nurses who will be taking care of you !! To think that I WAS scheduled for my surgery this wednsday.... but a slight change in plans. I won't know until the 20th of the month when i will be released to have it rescheduled. My blood clots seem to be under control. It was 2 weeks ago today that I went for Pretesting only to end up in the emergency room with what was to be blood clots in both lungs and one leg for sure. It hurt so bad to have the one leg scanned i wouldn't let them do the other. I was in the hospital a week, and went home and had to give myself shots of Lovenox 2 times a day for another 5 days... had to go and have blood drawn daily until this past friday. And then today I go to have it checked and the nurse did it wrong, said have it tested wed... thursday instead of monday/thursday... they of course were at lunch so we couldn't get a hold of anyone. SO back home i came... no blood drawn and as soon as i get done posting here i have to call and straighten that all out. GRRRRRRR!! I am feeling so so so much better.!! I have a Veba Cava Filter now, so any blood clots that might form in my legs will be caught in this. I sorta feel good that i have that going into this surgery, cuz i was concerned about getting them. Everything happens for a reason i guess. I am hoping that next month i will be able to get my surgery and be on the way to really feeling better !!! I will tell anyone... shortness of breath... aches in your calfs... u might wanna check on blood clots. Wish someone would have told me sooner... cuz i think i've had clots in my legs for sometime. What i think triggered the big shortness of breath is my dr. put me on birth control pills (at 42) to regulate my periods. Boy what a lessoned i learned. Hazel, boy your kids start school early... where do u live ?? This summer is just flying by. I don't have any kids, but live within shouting distance of a school, so it won't be long till my street will explode with kids again ! Deb, Oh i can't wait till i can say I ONLY have 39 pounds yet to go. Your doing great and i know you'll get there!! Be proud of how far you've come ! Hello to everyone else. I keep saying I am going to stop lurking... maybe i can do this weekly post and keep up.. lol... My best to you all... enjoy your week and your families!!! hugs, Cindy |
Good Morning!
Boy Cindy, I'm glad things worked out how they did, with them finding the medical issues prior to surgery. Before you know it you will have your surgery and feel 110% better. Hey Leenie  the 39 pounds will put me at my goal. The charts still will say I should be lower.......but I don't need no 'stinkin chart to tell me where I should be :D  Actually, my surgeon, who I no longer have a relationship with, told me that my goal weight should be 175.......which is where I'm headed. I have not done this weight loss thing quickly, but I can't complain........better than the 360 that I was at one point. Taking the daughter to have her hair changed back to its original color  Remember me whining about my SIL dying my daughters hair blue. School starts next Monday. This Wednesday band photo's are taken and this Saturday, since she is a senior, photos are taken of the senior and his/her parents for the football program and I just don't want my baby sitting there with blue hair. I know she is a great kid, but the blue hair MUST GO!! peachie are you sitting down? Well are ya? I'm a 70's kinda girl where my music tastes run. Yesterday in the mail, I got two tickets to Fleetwood Mac...........floor seats, pretty pricey and my cheapskate husband purchased them for me. Okay peachie, pick yourself up off the floor now. I'm going to Fleetwood Mac! I'm going to Fleetwood Mac! :dancer: The only thing that would make this better, is if the Eagles were opening for them. enough chitter chatter, need to get the butt in gear, my house is a mess and I guess I will spend HOURS waiting while they do the daughter's hair. Have a great day all |
this has to be quick. and i wish i could spend more time,,, computer at home is DEAD. with no hope of resurrection. and no time to replace it.
deb darlin.. remember... some of those last 39 pounds are excess skin.. so don't torture yourself if you lose only 29... love you all |
Hi Ladies !
Deb I'm glad your listening to your self instead of stinkin charts or Dr's. You go girl. I'm so stupid for thinking I was a blimp at 175 lbs. OY OY OY OY VEY ! When I get there, you can bet your bippie I'm not going to complain, "F" everyone else. PEACHIE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK, CAN I HELP YOU IN ANY WAY? Please let me know !!!! Hugs to you. Many prayers will be spoken for you. Jiff.... SMOOCH ! TTYL, Love Me |
I'm going to Fleetwood Mac
Deb, I got to see them on The Dance Tour. You will NOT be disappointed! They were wonderful! Well I just got back from the doctor, I have some back problems due to my job and had to get anti-inflammatory drugs to get the muscles to calm down. I get to go back in 2 weeks to be rechecked, and if not OK, have to start physical therapy. Oh great, I don’t have ANYTHING ELSE to be doing! I also got him to give me a prescription for Merida again. I lost 30 lbs on it earlier this year. Then went off it for awhile. Well I'm happy to say I have not gained any of the weight back, but I have not lost any either. So here I sit stuck at 174. According to him I should be around 145. And the Chart from **** claims that I should be 125! Sure, a 5'3 Mother of 2 who is 32 should be 125?! Man I wish! Honestly, I don't remember ever being 125! Well, John is doing fine. He is scheduled for a knee scope on Sept. 8th. I'm sure he will feel MUCH better when that is done. Honestly, like he said he feels so much better now, he really hates to go through with this surgery! Hope all is going well for everyone else! Go luck on the upcoming surgeries! Diane |
Ruthie? You want me to keep you pure? :D
But really, you have done so well and are in onederland just keep hanging in there and hanging on. Have a great trip, hug Linda for me and tell her I think of her often. I'm not going to get all mushed up here...so...I just say i would like to join Debkay and Hazel in the 39 pounds in 4 months deal. I think, maybe, perhaps I should be able to do it!!!! (ain't I evil?) Thanks for the good wishes gals, I appreciate them. I haven't been able to get on the computer much lately because dh fixed the sound card on it and now the kids can play their games...they boot me off! Hazel, I am keeping you and yours in my thoughts and prayers that those test results come out the way you want them too. Diane...boy do I love Fleetwood Mac...hope you had a great time! Cindy, now really sweet thing...you were suppose to pave the way for me here with this surgery thing!!!! Glad you are feeling better and I hope that you get rescheduled soon!!! later skaters, peach ps....the bowel prep is on Sunday....I'm not going quietly...consider yourselves warned! |
good Wednesday morning!
Leenie........175.......sounds so good to me!! Jiff, I think the hanging skin on my arms must weigh at least 10 pounds each :D No, I won't be upset if I don't lose 39 pounds. peachie I had to do my bowel prep Friday night for a Monday surgery. Saturday and Sunday were nothing but liquids......gee you would think with all that prep the surgeon could have gotten it right (trying to be funny, but not getting there with this  ) Diane I saw Fleetwood Mac back in the day :D the late 70's by far one of the best concerts I have ever attended. I don't think Christine McVie is with them on the tour. As long as that voice of Stevie Nicks is there all should be well. We go on Sept 7th.........I'm ready The daughter's hair is back to normal. When we walked in I thought our hair dresser was going to faint........."I don't know what I can do, but I'll try" she said. It turned out better than even she thought. I'm going to share some sad news and than go on a mini rant............ My sister's husband's nephew was killed Monday in a car accident in VA. He was riding in the car driven by another 16 year old. One car accident......excessive speed, went off the road and hit a tree. Horrible, horrible thing. My 16 year old niece, turned 16 in May, my dump-arse brother purchased her a car and turned her loose, she is not a mature 16 year old, she was not ready for this. She was in an accident also on Monday.......thank God she was not hure, but her car was totaled. Brother has now decided he will not replace her car. Also on Monday after band pracitce. One of the kids was driving home with his father (the kid was driving on a learners permit) turned in front of a truck on a very, very busy road and was t-boned on the passenger side. The child was not hurt, the Dad was air-lifted to the hospital that I spent many months in (level one trauma) The Dad has his hip broken in two places and his pelvis in 3, not sure of other injuries yet. I know that teens must learn to drive. But many, parents put their kids out there before they are ready. It is so sad. On that happy note, have a good day all |
oh deb... that's all so incredibly sad!!!!!! my heart goes out to all of you. the driving age is a bit older up here than in the sunny south, but i'm not sure that makes a whole lot of difference.
can i tell ya'll some good news??? the local vitamin shoppe - the one on route 46 in little falls for anyone who's interested - actually has the NECTAR protein!!! right now, it's only the green apple, but the assistant manager is ordering the other flavors. in fact, as soon as he checked me out, he grabbed his order form and started writing!!! the berry and tropical punch will be there in about 2 weeks, he said. can't wait to try it. he said that you could even eat them right out of the container!!! so, i'm looking forward to sprinkling it on cottage cheese, and maybe yoghurt, and even oatmeal. have any of you tried it that way???? and, since tonight is my debut as the support group leader, i'm going to take my new container and hand out samples. i'm so excited abotu this stuff, since ya'll have raved about it so much. 23 grams of protein per scoop!!!!!! 90 calories!!!!!! and mixable in water!!!!! what could be better?????? can't wait to try it... at work... gotta go.. love you all.. |
Oh Jiff that is good news!! I still have not tried the apple Nectar. My favorite is to mix the Cherry Berry and the Carribean Cooler together. In my opinion it is the best protein shake on the marked.
.....and, I have never thought about mixing it in yoghurt or cottage cheese. Must give it a try! Jiff let us know your opinion on the Nectar. |
They now have a new Nectar flavor! It is Strawberry Kiwi, I ordered it yesterday so I will let you all know how it tastes!
I sure do love the Apple one! Hazel |
I HAVE SEEN THE LIGHT!!!!! I AM A NECTAR-ITE!!!!!
this stuff is FABULOUS!!!!! and i actually tasted it right out of the container, and it tasted like that stuff in the old pixie straws - those straws full of powdered candy? the apple tasted like a good granny smith... and it was sooo convenient!!!! no mixing things. no blenders. just a spoon and some ice!! i stopped by the store to thank them, and to ask if this stuff could be frozen [popsicles!!!!]. it's hard with most proteins because they fall apart and don't do you any good. they didn't know. so i'll find out. a call or some internet research.. will keep you posted. i am NEVER going back to those other milk-based things!!!!!!! they were tolerable. but why put up with tolerable when you can actually have something GOOD?????? support group went well last night. people talked, and we didn't focus on the new folks, but i think everyone got something out of it. i made some people stand up and talk. after all, we have to get used to being more OUT THERE!!!! this center is really expanding the support group availability. there's an official schedule for the new program in the town where peachie and i live. and there are several other towns. and this woman started up just about a year ago with next to nothing! gotta go do some work... have a great day ya'll |
Jiff glad you like the Nectar! Never thought about the popsicle idea, let us know what you find.
glad your support group went well. I do think we tend to spend way too much time on the pre-ops at support group meetings......don't get me wrong I know it is very important, but many times at our meeting post-op questions would never get addressed. Now, we start out with post-op questions and set a time limit and move on to pre-op concerns. Works well. Spending a lazy day at home today. Open house for daughter is tonight (school starts Monday.) Tomorrow the band is playing at a Sam's opening. Of course I'm chaperoning :D Wouldn't miss it! Back to doing nothing! |
it's freezable!!!!!!!!!!
YEP!!!! nectar is freezable!!!! popsicles galore!!!!!!
and the sweet young boy in syntrax customer service said that he's heard of someone who mixes it into SF jello and SF FF coolwhip for dessert! oh happy day!!!!! |
Jiff, I understand about the dead computer, for some reason my wireless conection only works when it's in the mood. I have no idea when or why it does that to me, but I do have a backup Dialup connection that I can use for email and such, but the threads take entirely too much time to load for my patients!!!
So much is going on I could write a month, but no time. I'll just say that ole Alvin went to his surgeon's appt yesterday and Yes, I did go with him. He has about 50 more pounds to loose before the talk plastic surgery. All in all we were both satisfied with the dr's apointement. I won on the no soda issue!!! I'll have to try the NECTAR protein. Haqng in there Peachie, I'm thinking about you! |
Hey !!
Stop all this yummy food talk :D Just bustin yah. Lays just came out w/a Guacamole Chip WAAAAAHHHH!!!!! WHY OH WHY !!!! sigh ~ LOL Have a good night :chef: |
Hi Ladies--I am just a lurker--this protein stuff you are talking about. Does it have a brand name?? Do you buy it in the health food store or where?? I am a Type 2 diabetic who has lost 70 lbs in the last 3 years (just diet modification and exercise--portion control). I know I dont get enough protein--and this drink stuff sounds like something I could do.
Thanks for the info Chris Nothing tastes as good as thin feels |
chris... it took a PROTEIN drink to bring you out of lurkdom????? go to syntrax.com and they have a list of stores where you can buy the nectar. or you can call them on their 800 number. a very polite bunch of people in missouri.
i found it at a chain called The Vitamin Shoppe. GNC doesn't have it [they are pretty much corporation-owned, and the corporation tells the stores what they can and cannot carry]. i'm sure there are many others. or i think you can also order it directly from syntrax innovations. let us know where you find it! i'm sure other lurkers will be glad to have the info. and congrats on your success... you've worked very very hard and it's really showing! |
Hi Peeps,
Whine alert! This post is mostly a vent that I probably shouldn't post, but it's therapeutic to be able to write it all down. This has been the summer from **** and continues to be so. It's gotta get better! Last week, we had a huge, 100-year-old cottonwood tree fall down, roots and all. My husband, a friend and I were actually standing outside, very close to this tree when it happened. It fell over the road and onto some power lines. Twenty foot flames shot up from the lines and the field (mountainside) across the road from us went up in flames. There were power lines falling all around us. I cannot begin to tell you how scary it was. The fire was put out pretty quickly and power was restored in about 6 hours, so things could have been a lot worse, but it is a sight I won't forget anytime soon! My mother-in-law was diagnosed with liver cancer recently. She's having more tests today. The last biopsy was very painful, so hopefully today's tests are better. I'm amazed at how slowly the doctors are proceeding with all of this. She's already survived breast cancer. I filled out all Kaiser's paperwork for WLS and sent it in, but am not sure I want to have surgery with them even if I am approved. Why do they have to be so barbaric and downright stupid? From what I've read, Pacificare (my other insurance choice) isn't a great choice for WLS either so I'm pretty much in a state of pissed-off despair. I will keep plugging away though. I take my son to college (8 hours away) on the 26th. Half of me is excited, the other half is dreading it. My baby! We have been fighting with the insurance company ever since his accident on July 4. They finally gave us a fair price for his totalled car, but I'm still sharing mine with him until we find him a suitable car. How fun! He had healed nicely though. Gotta be thankful for the good stuff. I have to have knee surgery. Actually I'm kind of looking forward to it because I'm tired of hurting all the time. I have an appointment with the ortho surgeon on the 20th. Hopefully we can get this ball rolling and get the surgery over with quickly. Thanks for letting me vent. I feel much better! Chickadee |
poor stressed out chickadee
maybe you need to go to a baseball game????
here are some hugs, along with lots of tea and sympathy... :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: |
Thanks Jif! Actually I did go to a baseball game and it was great. I guess I'll just have to go to more. You're the best. :)
Chickadee |
Jiffy--thank you for the info. I enjoy reading your chats--you all are such a nice and funny bunch of ladies.
Keep up the good losing work!! I will be in New Jersey the end of Sept.--will think of you. Chris |
Chickadee.........erase that giant X off your forehead! My gosh, you do need a group hug! Consider yourself hugged by me also. And, I'll go to a baseball game with you, I'll even root for your stinkin' Rockies (as long as their not playing my precious Braves.)
Chris, feel free to jump in and join us on our weekly chat thread, as you can see nothing is off limits. Warning :D you will get sick, sick, sick of my Band Mom talk  but they love me so they let me get away with it  As a matter of fact, I'm up this early because we have pictures this AM at 8:45 for the senior Band kids and their parents, along with football players and cheerleaders. The senior pics with parents are printed in the football program.......like a right of passage I guess. |
Good Morning Debbie! I am up too! Can you get me some coffee??
I am planning on scrubbing my kitchen from top to bottom today, it is just amazing how dirty 4 little guys and 1 big guy can be! My angel Jacob (2) has started throwing food around the kitchen for entertainment purposes and of course Andrew (1) laughs and follows the leader! So During the week I (with the help of my 4 lb Chihuahua) we get up the big stuff but today is scrub the floors day! I hope you all have a great weekend! Debbie :callme: this morning if you get a chance! I got some gossip:D Hazel:sumo: |
Just got back from a Ladies Retreat with our church and it was great. Really helps to put things in perspective.
Chickadee, are you going to have knee replacements? or something else? It's unbelievable how much better I can walk since I had mine done. About insurance is Pacificare the HMO for Pacific Mutual? PM is what we have and they were really great in paying for ole Alvin's surgery. Jiff how did the apt with the plastic surgeon go? Alvin's hernia is getting bigger and his surgeon's comment was GREAT! Seems like the larger it is the less likely to be a medical risk, but the easier to have the insurance pay for the plastic surgery if they are done at the same time. Hang in there Peachie, Monday is only two days away! |
Chickadee, I love ya. Please hurry your fluffy self to jersey. I need you. I will cheer for the rockies and share my morphine pump with you.
promise. peach |
Chickadee, I am so sorry about your Kaiser issues. I know how hard it can be. Do you know if they cover it in your area?? I do not know what I would have done if I had not been able to change insurance companies.
I just wanted to say hang in there it will be worth it, I promise! Hazel |
