Something I've noticed over the years

Remember when everyone was FASCINATED about your surgery? For you newly surgeried folks, people are noticing - your loss, what you're eating, WHEN you're eating, how you're eating.

Well, over the years, trust me, that fascination stops [thank goodness!]. People seem to accept your new normal and get on with their lives [again, thank goodness!].

But after even more time, it seems that people COMPLETELY FORGET that you've had surgery. Now, frankly, this wouldn't be a big deal, but some of these people are DOCTORS who get that startled look when they're reminded. Oh yeah. that's right!

Or friends/relatives who just sigh in exasperation when you either can't eat, or can't eat what they think is 'enough,' or only eat one or two items that they've so lovingly prepared [because they've gone completely carb crazy on you!].

Trust me, WLS is NOT at the forefront of my mind - I had it so I could LIVE pretty normally without food being the centerpiece of my life. But I DO have to pay attention to it. There's a daily reminder - at least one - that it's still there.

And overall, I'm glad that people just sort of wander away and go about their business, but when there's an issue, i'd sort of like to see an 'oh, that's right' look on their faces, rather than me appearing to be stubborn and annoying. And constantly reminding doctors about something that's in my record? I'm just not into it.

I completely get, that I am not in your boat, but sometimes, a similar issue crops up for me.

I do have a few medically diagnosed food allergies. The BIG one is chocolate. Gives me horrid stomach cramps.

My family knows this, most don't make a big deal of it, but my mother, just does not get, why I won't eat the stuff.

I've had this issue for a long time! Like 40 years, diagnosed at 15! MOM! CHOCOLATE MAKES ME MISERABLE!:devil::devil:

I know, what you made is pretty, and it probably tastes really good, but it's not worth 3 hours of a belly ache. :?:

Or even worse is when you gain some weight back, no where near what I weighed before WLS, as I am still down 100 lbs, but people say when I eat and I do eat healthy 99% of the time, I thought you had WLS, how did you gain lbs back? Well duh, why are you so ugly. NOT.
