I watched Hoarders quite a bit, and I experience a lot of the same frustration watching this show that I did watching that. The behaviors that seem so obviously irrational to the viewer are perfectly normal for the subjects. It's interesting to see the personalities.

I think the show's producer is Dr. Now's son, which would explain some of why this show has the P.O.V. that it does.

As to the major personality issues and "extreme" cases - be they failures or successes, it just adds to the "circus freak show" atmosphere. I feel like people are being dehumanized by it, and it bugs me.

I'm relieved, that I did not make anyone on this thread very angry with my observations.:hug:

Britain's "Fat Doctor" is a much more realistic reality show where people actually make the healthy changes, acknowledge the struggles, but find loads of success. I find this particular reality show motivating. :)

Hi! I'm new, but I did want to say that as a pre-op watching the show has been good for me. There was an episode of a mom who finally got it together and started exercising, seeing a counselor and succeeding. I use it more as a proof of what not to do. I have been wondering if they don't require psyc evals, because they never talk about it.

Head stuff is just as important, or even more so, than the physical part.

If he is such a great doctor and he should KNOW that sometimes from a lot of weight loss comes gallbladder problems, I even know that and I do not have the initials MD after my name, why did he not test her first and he just assumed she was not doing the right thing with her diet. He seems so detached from his patients, I see no compassion with him what so ever, do not think I will watch again.

I stopped watching it. I think many of these people are not ready mentally for the surgery but they get it anyway because it's a 5 figure paycheck for him. I have deleted the episodes that I had.
