I started my 6 months' supervised medical weight loss on July 1st. On July 3rd, I met with the dietician and had an EKG. I was scheduled to have my psych evaluation on July 15th. The EKG came back abnormal, so I had to see a cardiologist in the morning of July 15th and had my psych evaluation most of the afternoon - talk about a head case! The cardiologist gave me the all clear after some additional testing, but I will need to be watched fairly closely because my maternal grandma passed away from a heart attack at 52 and my mom had a heart attack at 54. The psych evaluation went well, and I was given the okay to proceed.
The next several months were a whirlwind. Each month I went in and saw the NP and the RD, and I had to have my food & exercise log as well as meet specific monthly goals. Today was my final 6 month appointment. I have not lost a lot over the last few months (I'm down about 12lbs from when I started going in), but I have met all of their expectations, so I am clear for takeoff!
I meet with the surgeon tomorrow, I do my preop class on the 10th, and dun dun DUN.. surgery is scheduled for December 23rd. This will be my only gift for myself for a long time
I am ecstatic and terrified at the same time. I can't imagine what life will be like, but I know that it's bound to be better than the mess that I have been living for the last several years.I will stop by more as time closes in, and certainly after surgery. I just wanted to share my excitement and let those who are still trucking along with the medically supervised weight loss part of it that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. If I can get here, so can you!

Mine was scheduled before insurance auth because the surgeon will be out of town for part of December, and I work for the hospital so it was all coordinated based on available time off and etc. I am pretty fortunate, but my insurance typically covers WLS without too much of a fuss anyway. It's a hospital-owned insurance company so they are more than happy to cover it when it's their own surgeon performing the surgery!
