Meeting the Surgeon

I meet with the surgeon tomorrow. What is he going to ask me? What should I expect?

I have had the phsyche eval (and passed....for those of you who had their doubts....and YOU know who you are), been to the gyno, got the papers from my primary care doc and will have the mammo (yuck) next week as well as seeing the cardiologist, been to the support group.

thanks!

My surgery appt was the least harmless of all. Mostly my surgeon explained the procedure - talked about laparascopic vs. open and then answered my many questions. Although I am part of an HMO so in order to get to the surgeon - you have to have completed the 6-month program in the obesity clinic were you go to support groups, group meetings with dieticians and nurse specialist, and other hoops.

After I asked all of my questions - she gave me my date and that was it --- totally harmless.

Hope you have the same experience as me. I had a GREAT surgeon. She is all of about 98 lbs soaking wet! But, highly skilled ---

You CAN do this - (without hyperventilating) :D

Oh peachie, wish I could go with you to keep you company. If you would just move to the south........and become a Brave's fan this wouldn't be an issue, I could go with you.

My surgeon's flunky (junior surgeon) remember I never met the guy until the Thursday before my surgery. Anyway the flunky...um, junior surgeon told me about the surgery, looked at my belly, got snippy with my hubby.........you know, I should have left there and never went back. Oh sorry this isn't about meeeeee!!!

since they all know Jiff and know your the little sister........you will be treated like a Queen.

Debbie

PS I KNEW you would pass the psych-eval..........really I did!!

the surgeon PROMISED me that he'd take great care of peachie.. and since i'm nearly 12 inches taller than he is...!!!!! now, we all know the question that's most on her mind: will he untie her tubes????? we KNOW she's gonna ask him..

debkay 03-12-2003 06:51 AM

jiff, I know peachie has THAT question, but why, oh why does she even think that??? They probably aren't "tied" anyway, they are probably "snipped." At least that's what my doc "said" he did with mine.

And Jiff.......why are you up so late??

Debbie

you, know, it went ok. My appointment was at 10:30 and I spent maybe 20 minutes with the doc and hit my car to return home at 12:46 and got home about 1:15. The waiting was a killer but I have to tell you that all of the fluffy people in the waiting room were really nice. We all yacked alot while we were waiting...some pre ops and some post ops...it was kind of nice and my nerves were soothed a bit.

The doc asked if I had considered the band and I told him that I had but that my insurance did not cover it. He said that they did offer financing. (hear dh falling on the floor?) He said I was a candidate for either one of the surgeries and that I should take my time deciding which one I REALLY wanted since there is nothing pressing me to have the surgery in a hurry, health wise. He told me with the band I would have to work harder at it but if I am good at following rules I should do fine. With the rny he said I should be able to get down to 140.....that sounds awfully skinny to me!!!! I liked him though. So, next week I will have the mammo and get cardiac clearance and then all I have to do is call and they will give me a date. YOWSER!!!!

I should mention that I did talk to dh about it and he said that if I wanted the band that we would find away. That was really nice of him...despite the beads of sweat breaking out on his forehead.

thanks for being here!!!
