raw veggies? Bad idea at this point?

Since I got the go-ahead to add in fruits, grains, and veggies-I've been doing it very slowly. Bread-no. Tortilla-yes. Yesterday for lunch I had some rotisserie chx (no skin) and about 4 cucumber slices with hummus. Everything seemed to be fine until about 30 min later-I felt that "rock" in my chest again. It stayed there (and I belched all afternoon) from 1ish-6pm. Was it the cucumber? I did peel of the skin (I was told skins would be a problem).

Should I stay away from raw veggies? What about fruit? (I actually haven't tried any yet . . . )

I think what you can and can't tolerate varies greatly from person to person. I have never had a problem with raw veggies since I've been allowed to eat them. I can't tolerate milk (just drinking milk) at all, though. Mostly, though, I've been really lucky and can tolerate most things in moderation.

as someone who landed in the hospital because there was a wad of veggie matter blocking the outlet [long story], i'm sort of an authority [at least on the bypass]. listen up!

yes - take off the skin
also - REMOVE THE SEEDS
start with soft, easy to eat veggies - and shredded veggies [like roll up a little chicken in a lettuce leaf with a sprinkle of shredded carrot, a slice or two of bell pepper, a little chopped tomato and/or cucumber - very yummy!]

take it SLOW - put down your fork [or the food if you're doing finger food], and wait a minute or so before the next bit. it's called MINDFUL EATING, but it also allows that bite to hit bottom - that 'last bite' thing can sneak up very very quickly.

MANY people get the burps from cucumbers. you might want to spring for one of those english cucumbers and see if it makes a difference.

ok. having said ALL THAT - Rachael is right - some things just don't sit right. don't eat them for a couple of days, then go back and try again.

and don't worry - you're actually doing GREAT. there's no way i could have eaten any rotisserie chicken at your stage [thinly sliced deli roast beef and turkey worked for me, though].

Thanks Jiffy! Good advice . . I'm taking it slowly! And I do have to be careful with the chicken-or I will get too full. i also have deli turkey that is a lifesaver for quick easy protein!
