2.) no one asked your opinion

Dude-Good luck! I just got my surgery date this week (RNY) for the middle of January. I wish it was sooner but I got the surgeon I wanted so it's all good.
  • congrats, julie!!! it's been a long haul for you - what do you have to do to get ready? some docs want you to lose weight, but others just don't want you to GAIN.
  • I just have to lose another 10 or so pounds. And show that I'm compliant with my cpap. Which I am so no worries. I haven't met with the surgeon yet I should fairly soon-probably in November. I'm very excited and just ready to get this show on the road! But really-I can still do some more work on myself (mentally) first and read some more and try the protein ice cream from eggface and see if I like it!
  • julie - did you notice i lost nearly 100 pounds before surgery??? the docs attributed that to my CPAP - i'd been 'living' with undiagnosed apnea for quite awhile.

soooo - there ARE benefits to it - and you'll be seeing them. and if you DON'T keep it up, you might find me on your doorstep!!!! good job!!!
  • The cpap (I named it Guido) is mildly annoying but is making a HUGE difference in my energy level and general mental well-being. I have severe apnea (more than 40 instances/hour) and the doc said I was just as bad as a drunk driver behind the wheel! Talk about scary! I'm finally starting to wear it all night rather than 2 hrs at a time. I totally believe it will be easier to lose weight now that I have the cpap-sleep deprivation is linked to weight gain.

I did join a gym-but keep aggravating my knee (joint pain) which makes me limp, which caused my back muscles to be strained from over-compensating which led to not being able to hardly move for a week. Quite the vicious circle. I'll do my best-but i really need to get the weight off so I can start really exercising again.
  • two words: water aerobics!!!!! the goal right now is to move - and to NOT hurt. water aerobics will help.

i getcha about the severity. i stopped breathing like 60 times an hour. they were surprised i was still here. and the weight just FELL off - not sure it that'll happen for you, but it sure will help you here. keep us posted!
