New Lap-Bander, need others support

Hi everyone....
on March 1st I had a lap-band surgery...
its my third day .. and feel I made the decision too quickly ..
I dont know if its the pain, or hunger that is making me feel this way...
I need other Lap-Banders to share their experiance.. or a buddy :(

Getting used to life after your band is undeniably a process. It will definitely seem overwhelming at times but you can do this. You've just had surgery, so, of course there will be pain. Are you physically hungry? or are you just craving to eat? I know for my part I really wasn't feeling that physically hungry in the first few days, I was still feeling too wonky for that.. but I was craving to eat like CRAZY, because it was still how I was programmed to seek comfort. Knowing the difference won't make the feelings go away, persay, but they can perhaps start you to thinking about what's motivating you, which is an essential, and as far as I can tell at just over a year out, unending, aspect of all of this.

Do you feel that you made the decision too quickly because what you feel now feels overwhelming? Or are there other reasons?

Hi Sharry,

Yes, its the pain. I had the very same feelings of OMG what did I do. I promise, you will not feel that way 3 months from now (it takes time for the body to heal and the mind to adjust).

Just take it slow, listen and obey every word your doctor says. The most important thing after surgery to do is HEAL!!! don't worry about losing weight, exercising etc... just be gentle with yourself and heal. All the other stuff will come after.

:welcome: to 3FC's WLS board. We're glad your here.

Thank you Azhriaz,
Reading your post made me a bit better, I suppose i needed comforting.
As for the surgery, i think bcoz I've never done something this big in my life, I'm against hurting your body, or changing something in it, so this was huge:?:.
I am craving food though... drinking tasteless drinks is not satisfying for me...but today (day 6) after operation, I'm feeling a little better, and happy that i made it to today.

Thank you Leenie, woow :carrot: so I'm safe, so good to know this, and hear someone else that went through what I'm going through...I do tell my self to take it slow... but its hard.

Leenie 03-06-2010 03:17 PM

It can be very frustrating but its so worth just going slow and knowing it will all come together. Your gonna be just fine.

IMHO no matter what surgery you go through, I think everyone feels like us. Thank God it gets better

hi Leenie,
Sorry about this Q? but how long have you had the lap band now? reading the lap-band stickys ...i found a few with bad experience... so was just wondering ..
thanks

4 1/2 years.. the only issue I have now is acid reflux. I am not at goal yet because my mind fights with my body ... guess who wins LOL.

;)

I'm about 18 months out... It took me about 5 weeks before I had come to a crossroads and and then everything kinda settled down.

Everything sounds normal, just realize that pain is a good thing, its you emerging into a new you. The that hunger isn't real, its called habit trust me it will stop soon. Keep up the good work.

Sharry 03-11-2010 05:21 AM

Thank you

Thank you Leenie, and Justwes...

Heard alot on Acid reflex: so what is the cause behind it? teh empty stomach? or is it food types..? or vomitting? does any one get a proper answer?

Justwes: :carrot: great job, you're almost there, good luck on a healthier you.. can't wait to tell my story as well.

Just another Q:
how does the eating and excercise? does it seem natural, less food intake, means loosing weight.. encourages you to excercise more..etc?

Leenie 03-13-2010 09:53 AM

Restriction causes the acid reflux (weight too). The first thing your surgeon will do if you tell him you have reflux is take your fill out. Not everyone that has the band will experience this.

I think eating less comes natural (habit) over time.

Wes... WTG !!!

Thanks its been a long road... I tell everyone that thinks about the surgery, the band is a tool, not a cure all. The hardest part is getting to point where you want to eat, but knowing you really don't need too.

Excercise comes, with energy. Your going to be amazed at the energy you have, totally weird feeling when your not used to doing anything. Embrace it the excercise releases feel good hormones....
