Regret, does it last

  • Well, I had the rny Monday. I feel like crap. Im not doing well and right now all I can think is what the H+++ did I do to myself?? Oh my gosh I would give anything, anything to go back and not do it.

Please help me, will this go away??
  • Just butting in for a moment (the nurse in me can't help it).

It's very common to experience a bit of depression after any surgery. The anesthetic, pain killers, pain, feeling weak ... all add up. Rest, follow your post-op orders and I guarantee that you'll feel much better next week.
  • Thanks, I hope so. I just wwant to die right now.
  • Buyer's remorse.....HECK YES! I'll bet a lot of us went through the same thing, my dear. Hang in there! It will go away! Stay tough, it is so worth it!
  • Nancy hit the nail on the head - buyer's remorse. It's 110% normal. It will only get better from here, so hang in there!
  • Oh yeah, I remember that feeling... it does go away, in a week or two you'll be singing another tune. Hang in there
  • was i the only one who didn't feel this way????? i was SORE and tired, but i had no regrets. but seriously baby - this is TEMPORARY. give yourself a chance to heal, and a chance to move around. and for the anesthesia to get out of your system. just relax - drink water, and take care of yourself.

heh, I didn't feel that way, either, but I didn't want to say so and make anyone feel bad! I think I had one fleeting moment when I was still in the hospital where I almost broke down and cried, but I think that was partially just loneliness (I really hate hospital stays...). Other than that, I just knew it would all be worth it.
  • My sister had soemthing similar after her WLS. but about 2 weeks later she was over that. I havent had mine yet so I dont have any experience to share.
  • I had a brief moment of regret in the recovery room... so far at 3 weeks out nothing yet. sometimes my hubby is sorry he did it but not most of the time.
  • HOW LONG ago did your hubby have it? what are his regrets? Anyone know a reversial doc?

he had it 8 weeks ago. he sometimes misses stuff he likes to eat.

as for reversal surgery, this is a permanent surgery. the only time it's going to be reversed is if your life is threatened by the surgery later on down the road.

do not look at it like something you can change at a later date.
  • Thanks for the insight y'all!
I bet alot of the sadness has to do with all of the liquids and stuff. Wanting to eat something "normal", the entire ordeal of surgery, the hospital, ansthesia just to name a few but I'm sure it will pass.
I suppose I just never really thought about the "feeling bad" time right after surgery and all. Thanks for bring it to the forfront and makeing me see the hard truth.
I'm not going to feel wonderful right after surgery ~ but give it a while and I'm going to look and feel good. The times of sadness will be overshadowed by the good things.
I will continue to pray that I'm one that don't go thru the depression/sadness part.
    mgf~
  • Feelings of regret are VERY normal. You've made a huge step on the path of a permanent change in your life. Give yourself time to adjust.

  • I haven't had surgery, but remember, you have all of the pain and huge amount of change right now and none of the happy results yet. Be gentle with yourself and give it time. Once it starts working, your feelings may change.
