Yet another question

 I have another question that I would like to ask. I have been hearing you all talk about chewables and liquids on the vitamins and supplements for post op. I am one of those who can take a whole lump of pills and swallow them in one gulp of water. How exactly will all that change once I have the surgery.:dizzy:

I was told it's about absorbtion...it's easier to absorb liquids and such. And I don't think I could swallow large lumps of anything after surgery...things change over time (I could swallow more now that I am 6 months out) but at first I really appreciated the chewables.

Keep asking these great questions honey!

i was different (bander) i could swallow the pills but bought chewables and liquids at first. i am still able to swallow the pills i take. i do take my multi and my calcium at different times of the day. ask your dr. i think it is all personal to your body.

 well, it's like this. yes, chewables and liquids ARE easier to absorb, but most people do just fine with the regular ones. HOWEVER!!!!!!!!!! <and this is a big one!> it's not possible to take a handful of them with a drink of water - THEY GET STUCK!! and trust me - one round of that is ENOUGH!!!!

so, if you want to stick with the regular ones, take them one at a time, about 5 minutes apart. with plenty of water.

Like Jiffy said, they will get stuck. The opening from you stomach out into the intestine is only the size of an M&M.So think about the hand full of pills we use to take going through that opening. They even told me no gum afterwards because if you forget and swallow it and it get stuck, you are more then likely looking at surgery to remove it.

From my understanding, pills are still okay, but they have to be "dry" and not fat soluble.

Based on others' responses, I'm guessing you are looking at having the RNY gastric bypass? With the VSG and DS procedures, nothing will get "stuck" because the pylorus is kept intact and fully functioning. Just throwing that out there since I'm not sure which procedure you are having :^: Thgouh I believe with ANY surgery, you'll have to space out your pills since your stomach will be too small to hold many at once, especially soon after surgery.

I just wanted to add that I had a vitamin b-50 tablet "pass" right through me intact...sorry to be graphic.
