Considering Lapband surgery

I really need some help. I just found this website and love it! First of all, I was looking at the insurance information to see if either my or my husband's insurance would cover it. I found the sight on the obesity website but I noticed there was not anything recent. My husband has Blue Cross Blue Shield Federal and I have United Health Care. Has anyone recently had the surgery where their insurance approved them. I am just concerned that so many people are trying to do it now that I won't be approved. Also, could someone tell me, ballpark figure, assuming all went well about how much this surgery even costs? I really appreciate the help and look forward to talking often on this website! I begin my journey today!!!:carrot:

I had gastric bypass so I can't help much but I do know that there are advantages and disadvantages to both the lapband and GB so I suggest that you read read read about both. The best way to find out the financial and other info is call to the surgeon's office and ask. There are usually good about answering questions.

Welcome :)

I had blue cross blue shield horizon and they paid all but about $2,500. That was my deductable included ($600).

Every insurance is different so its hard to say what and/or if they will cover it.

Call your insurances and ask, if they say yes, ask them what requirements must you meet.

Good luck !!!

You need to talk to the HR department where you & your hubby work. Often employers add or exclude coverage for specific stuff, like obesity surgery. Hopefully all is good and you get approval with no problems.

I love my lapband!

Thanks so much for all of the helpful information!!! After much prayer and talking to others, I actually purchased the WW new books and my husband and I are doing it together. I lost 2 1/2 lbs the first week and won't weight again this week until Sunday. I can honestly say I really like it and found it relatively easy to follow. I guess I felt I needed to put out an honest effort with this before I make the move for surgery. But if this works then I will stick with it! Thanks again to everyone, you all are awesome!!!
