Decided to have surgery

I have decided to have Lap Band surgery.

I weighed myself at the doctors office while I had my daughter in for a check up. I was disgusted at the number. 280 lbs!!! :( I have gained the weight I had lost plus some. This is the most that I have ever weighed. Its getting hard for me to breathe, my clothes are too tight and Im miserable.

So I started looking online and found a surgeon pretty close that specializes in bariatric surgery. I have to attend a seminar in January. Then go from there. Im looking into the Lap Band. Its not permanent and doesnt involve cutting the stomach or intestines. That scared me.

Good for you, I am sure you will find the information very interesting and informing. This is the start, I remember those days I kept thinking step by step if this is mean't to be (ie insurance coverage, health issues I had) then i will happen and it did for me.. I have no regrets at all...

Thats great Anita CONGRATS!!!

I'm sure you know that WLS is not a cure and thats its a tool, a very good tool, even with the band you must diet and exercise to lose weight.

Let us know how you make out at the seminar... I have a feeling your going to feel very positive when you walk out.

Hi, Anita - I also have decided to have lap band surgery - making the decision was probably one of the hardest parts! Still nervous about it, but now that the decision is made, I can go forward and really get serious about the requirements (for insurance as well as for safety). Looking around the web, I found a site that suggests a special pre-surgery low-fat diet for about 2 weeks to help shrink your liver to reduce surgical risks. Of course I'll ask my surgeon about that, but it does make sense. My surgery will probably be in February - good luck to you and post how you're doing.

Thank you all so much! Yes I realize this isnt a quick fix. Its gonna be a lot of hard work. I have a question too. I dont have a primary doctor. I havent seen one in about 2 years. I get aggravated with them over my weight and dont go back. Will that have any effect on having the surgery?

Im going to look into that pre surgery diet. I know every little bit will help.

I talked to my neighbor the other day. She too has been obese all of her life. Shes interested in the surgery but thinks her insurance wont pay for it. Im trying to convince her to attend the seminar with me and get some info but shes wanting me to go first then tell her all about it. Maybe we can get lucky and go thru this journey together.
