DAY 4 -- and struggling to eat.

  • I'm thrilled to have made it to day 4, and after fighting a near migraine the end of day 2, I'm feeling very proud for just sticking with my plan (my head literally ached just to touch my feather pillow -- it felt like a block of concrete, not a soft object -- and I slept for 12 straight hours b/c of it.)

Well now I'm finding that I just don't care much about food at all -- any kind. I wouldn't care for pasta (my usual absolute fave!!!), wouldn't care for a cookie if it was sitting right in front of my face -- and wouldn't touch a Coke (another absolute fave!!!) if someone offered me $10.

So what gives? I'm worrying that I won't consume enough calories and will stall myself b/c the thought of food really does repulse me. Days 1 and 2 I was looking forward to my next meal and just starving. Now I could take lunch or leave it (rest assured I ate one today though) and just really have no desire to eat. Any tips? Any thoughts to share? Similar experience?

Thanks so much. These boards are a God send

  • Your body may just be burning up reserves, but the fact that you are not interested in food is somewhat disturbing. You know that you have to eat to lose weight - so just be careful and don't let this get away from you. There have been a few times that food has not sounded good to me, but this is a rare occurence. If you continue to lack an appetite, best consult your MD.

  • Well, maybe I described it poorly. It's just that I don't feel hungry at all. I still eat (had an omelet this morning with peppers, diced ham, side of bacon and sausage patties) and then had a burger (no bun) with cheese and some lettuce (plain) for lunch. So I'm eating -- and eating well. It's just a chore. Like, I could have dinner tonight, but I could also just assume skip it. It doesn't feel like I'm hungry enough to eat a meal. Does that make sense? I think my disintrest in food is similar to when you are full -- and when you are full, food doesn't faze you the way it does when you go grocery shopping on an empty stomach, etc. I think it's more like that -- but even my favorites don't sound tempting. Perhaps that's part of breaking the carb addiction/sugar addiction?

    Great advice, too. Thank you!
  • brynna - I find now that I stopped eating a lot of those things like cookies, pasta, bugers etc, I don't feel like I eating them. But after I have some - I want it! Some days I am not overly hungry. I eat my meal anyway because even tho I don't feel hungry my body is. Some days I am starving all day. I think it is normal.
  • That's weird Brynna because I felt like that today (and today is my official 4th day too).. but then realized that I had TWO large coffees from D&Ds today and that is probably part of it. Now I'm annoyed because my stomach is growling and those coffees sucked up my calories... LOL
  • I have been on low-carb for 10 months and there are days that I don't feel hungry at all. I still eat 20-25 carbs every day. Some days I am just more hungry. I find that eating several small snacks on days I'm not hungry help me to get in my necessary food. Your body still needs the food even when you don't feel hungry. Good luck on this new lifestyle.
  • Thank you everyone. I appreciate hearing of your experience and input! My hunger is back today, so I guess it's just a cycle I'm going through.

And Brendalee -- it's so cool that we're both on the same day! Our first weekend is coming up, so let's do our best to stay on plan!
