If I slip off my program for one meal, I try to keep in mind that it was only one meal. It does make me feel the need to put in an extra mile or 2 on the treadmill when I know I had something that I shouldn't have. This is what I did on the Holidays and I at least maintained my weight those times instead of gaining.

I also analyze what prompted me to eat what I ate?? What time is it? What had I eatten prior? Eventually you will notice a pattern. ex: my last meal sisnt have any protein or my last meal lacked in fiber. *usually what does it for me* so.. I know how to better deal the next time I feel like being "bad" I usually know its because my body is lacking something essential, so i grab for healthy. I havent always done that obviously, but doing the above is how I eventually got to this point.

Oh yeah, dont exercise because you ate bad. Maybe add a few mins to each work out for the rest of the week, but dont go balls to the wall because you had a cookie. That IS a form of bulemia. I know because I was once headed dont that road.

Relax. One splurge--even two splurges--won't undo weeks of hard work. If I overdo it, I just make sure to get back on track for the rest of the week. I also allow myself a "free day", once every two or three weeks, when I can eat whatever I like, so if I really overindulge, I just count it as my free day.

I go back to what I was doing. I do feel bad about it to start, but then I think, well, it's taken me years to get to here from my highest ever, this little overindulgence will just add two or three more days to that journey - a drop in the bucket, really. Like, maybe I was going to hit my goal weight on a Monday, and now it'll be Friday - big deal!! Kind of a funny way to think of it!

In your case you might also want to ponder for a moment how much weight you've lost for a few moments. Do you feel as bad about eating too much today as you did 114 pounds ago? I'd guess not.

So, it was a little lapse, but in the eternal scheme of things really nothing at all.

cheerio,
sue

Where is my brain? That 114 pounds must have been from another post I read a minute ago. Sorry for the confusion. The general sentiment still fits, though.
cheers,
Sue

For me...I usally feel very guilty but I just work out extra hard and then remind myself that tomorrow is a new day.

Watercolors: LOL I need to adopt this philosophy.
4. Ask "Did anyone die?" (seriously. . .if nobody's dead, it's gonna be ok. . .and sometimes it helps to say this aloud)

I used to really beat myself up for every little slip up, now I adjust my eating for the rest of the day and maybe add an extra 10 minutes to my workout as Ready2Shed put it.. I don't go balls to the wall LOL ( BTW that really cracked me up when I read it ) :D

I do this too! Gives me a clean start:carrot: I always think about what my doctor told me- "When you have a flat tire, you fix it or call for help, you don't just go and slash the others!" For some reason that always makes me laugh:rofl:

fluffy28 I never heard this before, I really like it, thanks for sharing.

About what do I do if I had a big meal first I try to analyze why I ate! What went wrong? Sometimes it’s as silly as the cookie jar was on the counter all day long (thanks to Dr. Phil now I always keep what ever junk my husband brings out of my sight)

If I feel bad I ask my self was it worth it? Then write my feelings in a piece of paper and hang it on the fridge (so when ever I feet tempted I read the piece of paper). Then I say to myself “one day at a time, no guilt and move on” .

I too exercise a bit longer if I hadn’t, if I already did then it’s longer the next day, and I eat less the rest of the day and the following day. If it was a really big calorie meal then I eat less for 6 days (why six? I have no idea! I’m silly with numbers :D ).
