Im 5' 10" and 219 pounds. I wear a size 18 in most stores for Jeans and pants. Size 1x or xxl for shirts. Need to work on my belly! : ) Actually everything.

How much weight has anyone lost to go down a size. Is it usually 20 pounds per size, or has it been 10-25 for some?

KimmyKat63 04-13-2006 03:38 AM

I'm 5'9" and 207 lbs and just got a new pair of size 16 jeans today, down from size 22 I wore at my high weight of 250. At 165 I wear size 10. This size thing is insane :p

For me, it's about 15 lbs per size.

And for this, I refer to a condensed version of "The Paper Towel Theory." Think of your body as a roll of paper towels where each paper towel represents a pound that you have to lose before you reach your cardboard tube (your thin body, if you will). The more paper towels on the roll (pounds to lose), the more you need to pull off to see a difference a difference. If there are 200 paper towels on the roll, and you pull off 10 or even 20, you probably won't notice much of a change at all. However, if there are only 40 papertowels on the roll, and you pull off 10 or 20, it will make a MUCH bigger difference!

All of this to say, the more you have to lose all together, the more you will have to lose to go down a size, and that number will decrease as you get closer to goal.

However, depending on your exercise and diet, I have seen people go down a whole size (or even 2!) without really losing ANY weight at all. Then there's me--I lost 40 pounds from my highest (310 down to 270), and I didn't even go down a single size--started in 22s and ended in 22s, just a more comfortable 22, but not loose enough to squish into a 20 :dizzy:

I like that paper towel thingee. That's a good description!

You have some good analogies Jill

Before I started working out.. I was 175-180lbs and I wore an 11. I went to 156 and 7/8 so 20-25lbs was 2/3 sizes. I guess about 10lbs a size. For me

mrsgeb2 04-13-2006 11:30 AM

I'm 5' 7"-I weigh 218lbs (right now:) ) and I wear a size 16, of course that's depending on who makes the pants. I usually wear a size large top sometimes a xl depanding on how much i've eaten that day:^: .

I love the paper towel analogy!

The size thing is so hard to say. I haven't been lower than a size 10 in a pretty long time, so I don't have much basis for comparison here...but right now at 163.5 I'd have to lose about 10 lbs. to comfortably fit into size 10 jeans again. Then there's the whole issue of different brands of jeans and different cuts of jeans to add to the mix. I definitely find that some brands are cut a bit more generously than others. Right now I'm looking forward to getting into my size 10 jeans from J. Crew that I got for $10 at a used clothing store (the tags were still on the jeans!!). I find that J. Crew is cut slightly more generously than some brands...for example, Gap jeans never fit me. I should add that I am quite pear-shaped!:D

I think that I am probably gonna lose 1 size per 10lbs too. I was a size 13/14 at 170, and right now I'm a size 16 or 17 at 191.

Lady Jackyl 04-13-2006 01:38 PM

I have to lose about 10 pounds to go down a size. Was a 14 at 163, and a 12 at 153, and a 10 at 143, now Im 135 and a tight 8 unless their stretch denim, or midrise then they will fit fine ;)

Burgie 04-13-2006 01:49 PM

I am 248, 6'2"....wearing a 16 currently.

chaoskitty 04-13-2006 02:12 PM

Ok I'm 5'3" and right now I'm 156.6 (ask me again tomorrow :dunno: because it's always achangin' either up .2 or down .2). I'm firmly in a size 14 but I have a couple pairs of pants that are 12s as well as most of my dresses. I can wear a medium shirt most times. :dancer:

GADS I'm 156.8 now - what a stinky plateau! :tantrum:

I'm 5'4'' too, 176/177 right now and I'm just barely getting into some size 14 pants. Boggles my mind I tell you!

LaBonita 04-13-2006 02:35 PM

5'2", 147 lbs (I think...it fluctuates so darn much) <---anyone with similar stats??

As for size...I have no idea. It varies so much store to store...I can usually look at a pair of jeans and guess about whether it'll fit me. The pants I'm wearing now are 9's, but they're also the stretchy kind. I'd say I'm a 12 or 13....somewhere in there. :?:

PicklesPotter 04-13-2006 06:30 PM

Is it too late?

I would like to do this too! I need a buddy who is around the same "level" I am at.
Height 5'1
Weight 169
Size 14?--I don't know, sometimes 12, sometimes 16

Just starting so I have a LONG way to go,:( but I am ready!
:) :carrot:
