Help

The weight is starting to come off (still kinda slow) but I just wanted someone to have a look at my fit day and give me any tips that I could be doing wrong -

http://fitday.com/WebFit/PublicJourn...wner=sotypical

Thanks!

It looks pretty good to me- except you could try having toast instead of a bagel and that would probably save you 1/2 the calories for 2 slices. Also try splenda for your coffee- I really like it and all those little calories add up. But you're excercising alot, so that's awesome! Keep it up!!!!!! :)

sotypical 03-29-2006 03:00 PM

I KNEW someone was going to say something about the begal! lol
It was bad, I have wanted it for 4 days and finally I had to give in and eat it. Normally I have toast, lol. I think I will stop drinking coffee altogther; I don't need it.

Sassy8877 03-29-2006 03:21 PM

You may not be eating enough calories. I see 1200, then 800 and 1300 -- this may through your body into thinking you are in 'starvation mode' and it will hold onto fat to survive. I would suggest trying to stay between 1200 - 1500 and even slightly more if you are really exercising.

judes26 03-29-2006 03:41 PM

lol :) well, the great thing about counting calories is that you CAN give in and have a bagel, you just have to count it. I think that's why this plan has worked for me, because the minute i tell myself "no more bagels" is when I want a bagel!!

srmb60 03-29-2006 03:50 PM

Please read this very informative thread about 'starvation mode'

I am just so confused right now. lol

Do I eat more or stay the same - or maybe I eat less. lol

I was eating more the first month and I didnt lose anything so then I started eating even less. However I wasnt using fitday when I started so I dont know what my calories were in a day.

srmb60 03-29-2006 04:20 PM

Did you lose eight pounds in the last month?

sotypical 03-29-2006 04:25 PM

It took a month before I lost any weight. And it has actually be about 7.5 pounds but that thing reads it as 8. I lost 5 all of sudden one day just before I came here. Around the time I cut back my calories. Before I came here I was eating even less but more calories. Most of them I would get with my dinner. After I lost the 5 pounds about two-three weeks ago I guess. The last 2(.5ish) came off in the last couple weeks. Last week I lost like .7 of a pound and I ate really good and got tons of exercise.

If I eat more then I feel like I am eating too much and not watching my portion control.
If I add something like cereal to get in some extra calories I am just adding empty calories.
So maybe I add a protein bar or an Atkins bar or something – there are high in calories aren’t there? I would LOVE any suggestions.

srmb60 03-29-2006 04:30 PM

Keep doing whatever you did during that time then. 7.5 or 8 pounds is great.
1200 or 1300 cals is fine.
What you need to change in fitday is your calories burned. You are not using 3000 cals per day at least you didn't mention that you were a lumberjack :)
What's a fruit source?

sotypical 03-29-2006 04:32 PM

This is a fruit source: http://www.sunrype.com/viewproduct.php?line=9 - VERY TASTY I love them :)

"Fruit snacks aren't just for kids. FruitSource bars are 100% fruit, provide a source of fibre and potassium, and they deliver 2 servings of fruit in every bar. All that and they taste great too."

They have ones that having veggies mixed in two and they give you 3 servings of fruit and veggies! mmmmm

sotypical 03-29-2006 04:33 PM

Oh and my fitday... I dont know where that comes from I have my thing set to "seated work - some movement"....

srmb60 03-29-2006 04:36 PM

Ugh! That's one of the flaws in fitday. can you get your average calories in for a couple of weeks?

sotypical 03-29-2006 04:41 PM

Not sure what you mean, but I have no idea how many calories I burn in a day. I do enter whatever I get from exercise though. I changed it just to "seated work"

srmb60 03-29-2006 04:46 PM

If you go to reports in the left column of fitday ... you can choose several things and length of time you'd like to look at. over one week, two weeks etc. I wanted to know if you had an average calorie intake for any length of time.
Nosey, ain't I?

la3y_un1c0rn_37 03-29-2006 04:52 PM

Susan you are to funny!!!!lol

sotypical 03-29-2006 04:53 PM

Past Week: 1178 cal
That is all I have entered and I know there are a few days that are a bit low (like 700 or 800) because I forgot to add dinner and such into them or the items were not in fitday and I have NO IDEA what they were that I was eating. haha - but there is only two days like that.

It seems most days lately I am between 1200-1300 - I do have a dairy of food I was eating before guess I could go back and enter foods in for like two weeks before I started cutting calories - but I wouldnt remember how much of everything I ate so guess that doesnt work so well - I was only writing down what I was eating and not how much.

srmb60 03-29-2006 04:57 PM

No I wouldn't bother unless you're detail fan. If you're not hungry. If you have lots of energy to do all the things you must do and exercise. And if you are getting your nutrients (another fitday report) ... don't worry. I think you're doing just fine!

la3y_un1c0rn_37 03-29-2006 04:57 PM

I also have got to get back to writing down my food to....I did better when I was doing that.

srmb60 03-29-2006 04:58 PM

Look at that Leigh (the unicorn one) she's doing wonderful work. She counts calories too!

sotypical 03-29-2006 05:00 PM

No idea how to read that report... From what I can unstand I do have a few things too low. Like Calcium and Iron. As well as a couple others.

sotypical 03-29-2006 05:00 PM

I guess I worry too much... my time will come.... I HOPE!

Heather 03-29-2006 05:04 PM

I'll weigh in... while I think you're not going to kill yourself or anything at 1200-1300, you could probably eat a lot more AND lose weight given your current weight, especially if you're exercising. What happens if you plateau? Are you getting enough nutrients? That can be hard to do at 1200 calories.

I'm about 20 pounds heavier than you and losing on 1800-1900 calories/day with moderate exercise.

Just something to think about. Obviously you have to figure out what works for you, but think long term, not short term.

srmb60 03-29-2006 05:05 PM

Just take a multi vitamin. Lots of us do.
Overthinking is what sends a lot of folks right to the cookie jar.
You'll be fine!
Don't be a stranger to 3 fat chicks ;)

sotypical 03-29-2006 05:08 PM

I am not a stranger at all! I come here everyday!

Okay I will EAT MORE! But tips of what else I can eat or add that I don't have to eat a lot of? Like something small but good for me that will quickly add 300 or 400 calories? I am so scared of eating some bad :| haha

srmb60 03-29-2006 05:12 PM

I'm glad you come here everyday. I find it absolutely essential!
More vegetables, lean proteins, oatmeal???

Heather 03-29-2006 05:13 PM

good things to eat:
yogurt
cottage cheese
salads -- or other ways to get in veggies
hummus (as a veggie dip)
tuna
all kinds of fruit (fresh pineapple is one of my favorites)
whole grain pastas or breads
brown rice
healthy granola bars (I like the kashi bars)
cheese (I eat some lowfat, and regular, in small bits).

...

sotypical 03-29-2006 05:15 PM

Veggies don't have many calories in them and I try and eat a lot already.
I eat a fair bit of meat - or rather - more then I would like. I am not a huge meat eater - I like it - just never eaten much.

I could eat oatmeal I guess - but even that has like 100-200 calories. I would have to eat like 3 helpings! haha Oatmeal also has iron and last time I donated blood I was turned away because my iron was too low - so that is a plus there.

I eat all that :( Just not at all once. Minus the hummus... gross! haha

srmb60 03-29-2006 05:16 PM

Ya know Wyllen ... I read your posts all the time (smart and infomative) but I never paid much attention to your s/c/w .... MAN ALIVE woman, you've done awesome work!

sotypical 03-29-2006 05:20 PM

They need a calories "drink" or something that has nothing but calories, lol

srmb60 03-29-2006 05:22 PM

Oh say! How about a shake of some kind?

Isn't that what coca-cola is?? :) Oh, and caffeine!

And if you aren't hungry, you don't necessarily NEED to eat more... but think about calories and nutrition together. It's not only about eating calories, it's about eating foods that make you feel good. Also, you could just have a little more of what you already eat... slightly bigger portions of the good stuff!

back at ya, susan... on all counts! You're in a great place and always take a lot of time to talk to people!

And thanks for noticing! I can't believe I have lost just about 25% of my starting weight!! I'm in a groove!

sotypical 03-29-2006 05:29 PM

wyllenn - you are doing awesome! I am going to keep you in mind everytime I reach for that cookie! hehe

Shake... protien shake? That is GOOD FOR ME! If only I could figure out how to make them so I don't have to plug my nose to drink it without wanting to throw it back up. If I make it like I did the other day - mix, fruit, milk, maybe add some yogurt or something - that would give me like an extra 200 calories among other good stuff!

I don't want empty calories - I want good calories so coke is out of the question! lol

And I really want to thank all of your for helping me. I am going to try and get my calories up to 1500 a day and try that for a bit and see how it works. My big thing - like I said - I am scared of calories and fat.

srmb60 03-29-2006 05:31 PM

Your shake sounds fine!

Oh and thanks Wyllen. Isn't this the greatest place to come for help and encouragement?

just think about the commitment you are making for yourself and your ultimate goal. Is that cookie REALLY worth interfering with getting to your goal? Sometimes the answer will be yes, but usually for me it is no.

It truly is. I've been a lurker on almost every other board I've ever read, but getting involved here has been helpful to me in so many ways! Not only have I learned a TON of information, but talking other people through their struggles helps me with my own!

*waves to lurkers*
