Rate of weight loss?

  • I expected to lose a "chunk" in the first week or two since I re-started eating healthy and then stabilize at an average of 1-2 pounds per week. So, I've lost 9 pounds in the last two weeks. Some of that was PMS bloat. I haven't added extra physical activity yet, but will soon. My calorie intake (according to FitDay) has ranged from a low of 1108 to a high of 2286 with an average of 1616. Should I expect to slow down now?
  • Ride it as long as you can, but you should expect slow down at some point. That point is different for everybody. Personally, I got a big chunk the first week, then a standstill the next 3 weeks, then all of a sudden I started losing again big time. So the moral is everybody is different. On average you should expect 1-2 a week. It's fun to lose though. It's pure motivation.

Congratulations! But, you'd better hope it slows down. Losing at that rate at your current weight, without significant muscle building, would mean that you are losing more muscle than fat. You don't want that to happen!

The first 2 week drop is mostly water and some fat- if you are like most people, you probably lost about 3-4 pounds of fat and the rest water. It really should slow down to 1-2 pounds a week for a healthy, sustainable loss.

  • Once again Mel is right on You *want* it to slow down, just make sure that doesn't discourage you. Start focusing on other goals (weight lifting, protein intake, exercise goals).
