Hi there.. have a question
I am reading about sugar addiction vs. drug addiction, I am wondering what does this statement mean "'The difference between sugar addiction and narcotic addiction is largely one of degree? :?: Thank you! I am a recovering drug addict and sugar is like crack to me!

Hmmm .... I dunno. What's the next sentence?
|
|
I even put that quote in a google search but the sentence always ends with just that quote.
Degree??? |
There's some interesting thoughts here
http://www.drugtext.org/library/articles/becker02.htm It's killer complicated but at least I found a reference. |
Ah well ... I ll wait till I go see my therapist on Monday and I will ask her about this. Thanks! :) ;)

The impression I got was that narcotic addiction tends to create "more intense" cravings and "more intense" effects on the body, whereas sugar addiction can [more easily] be controlled.
Dunno if I'm right, though. ;) |
It's not phrased very clearly, is it? I think what it means, is that sugar and narcotics are both addictive, but the difference is the severity of the addiction and withdrawal. The phrases "to a greater degree" and "to a lesser degree" kind of mean this.
Narcotics are worse I would guess--but sugar does have that addictive quality to it. You have some, you want more, you have withdrawal when you stop. |
