How many Calories-A POLL
Hay guys I just wanted to post a poll, if you want to leave comments about your height as well and whether your choice is working for you that would be great, maybe it will help some others out there!!:dizzy:
I am 5'5" myself and am keeping in the 1400-1500 range and its giving me about a 12 lb a month loss so far.....
I'm also 5'5" and doing well on just under 1600 calories per day. On weekends I have one or two hundred calories more. I'm losing at around 1 lb. per week. I work out 3x a week at Curves.

good job!!! :)

Generally I keep to about an average of 1700 cal a day. (But this can vary quite a bit, 1400 one day 2200 another day 1500 another day 1800 yet another day and so on). However, when I was at a higher weight, I would eat more calories in a day. When I started losing at 272lbs I was eating about 2200 a day. But since then it has gradually lowered a bit. Over the course of the past 17 mos. I have lost 91 lbs for a average loss of 5.35 lbs a month. And the more weight I lose, the less I will be able to have in terms of calories.
I hope that this helps someone. :) |
I don't have an option to vote! I eat 800-1000 a day and have a couple of "free" days a month. I used to eat 600 (when I was in the morbidly obese range), but I'm a lot smaller now and had to up my caloric intake (also reducing the speed of my weight loss). I've lost 106 pounds in 32 weeks (about 3.3 pounds/week; 13 pounds a month). But I wouldn't recommend this for anyone; it's tremendously challenging. I regret choosing this diet.
I'm 5'7'' |
I average 1200 calories per day. I also swim for an hour or an hour and a half a minimum of 4 days per week (usually 5). However, I have an endocrine disorder that makes it very hard to lose weight. I gained a lot of weight because of it, but now that I'm treating it, my body doesn't handle certain foods (mostly carbs, some forms of protein) correctly... which results in me not wanting to eat. Its REALLY easy for me to skip meals, which is really bad.
:mouse: |
wow you guys are all doing awesome! this will definitely help people who are trying to calorie count!
I do 1200 a day, but poking around on the maintainer's forum I'm not sure 1200 really is the dangerous minimum everyone thinks it is. I think with the right foods in the diet and closely paid attention, 1000 could be as healthy. However, I try to eat in a range that I will be willing to eat for the rest of my life, and 1200-1300 is that for me. I've found looking at my protein really helps me to stay full all day too.

I usually stay in in the 1500 range, but somedays I sneak up to 1600. I try to stay below that. I do cheat once a week--I try to stay light on the cheat. My height is 5' 8"
I know what you mean blues about the 1000 and agree you should stay where you are most comfortable, Though I think 1000 is a tad bit low and while it may not kill you it certainly could slow your metabolism a little bit from what I heard!
Im 5'4". I average 1400-1600 calories with a 1 lb loss a week.
5'11 I try to stay around 1300 to 1500...
I'm 5 foot 5 inches tall, 37 years old....I try to stay in the 1200 range, sometimes I go a little lower, sometimes a little higher.
I try to stay in the 1200 range because im smaller- 5'4" and because i do not excercise as i should. im also an "instant gratification person" so once i heard 1200 was as low as you could safely go - thats what i aimed for in hopes that it would get me to my goal faster.
It's 1600 - 1800 calories a day for me. Three main reasons. One: I am nursing & really don't feel comfortable going under that. Two: I have heard & liked the theory that you should eat the number of calories to maintain your goal weight (this is something the Navy used to teach), and 1800 is that for me. Three: I like food and there's really no need to go lower. I've no desire to stress my body by extreme calorie-cutting, & even less to have rebound weight gain because I chose a calorie level I couldn't reasonably stick to.

I aim for 1200 but i have trouble getting there each day. Most days i only eat maybe 900. I tried throwing an egg or 2 in between meals to raise it but WOW eggs yolk certainly carry alot of fat. I still havent weighed mydelf yet...waiting till wednesday!
I usually have 1200-1500. I average 1400 a day.
I am 5'3" and I eat about 1500 cal / day and is currently losing about 1 to 1.5 pound per week.
Am I the shortest one on this forum? At 5'1", I'm definitely the shortest person (over 12) that I know. My 10-year old nephew is nearly as tall as me!
I'm working my way down to between 1200-1400 calories. I'm actually doing quite well considering I only started counting calories three days ago. I started at 1650, and I'm already down to 1477. Slowly just eating less junk food, increasing my veggie intake (a big salad every day!) and it's really paying off for me. I've also been eating a can of one type of veggies as a snack every day. Fiber, fiber, fiber! |
If I eat 1500 cals a day I don't lose weight at all. At 1200 cals a day I can drop a pound and a half a week. I exercise regularly--Curves 3x a week and walking on the other days. But 1500 just has never worked out. Maybe once I can do more strenuous exercise I can change that.

I'm 5'7 and I usually eat about 1100-1200 calories a day. But I couldn't imagine eating more calories because it's a strugle trying to get to 1200...
Freddy you sound like me. I'm not exercising too much right now and i wanted to see how eating about 1200-1300 calories a day would affect my weight loss if i didn't exercise. I lave lost about 3lbs in 2 weeks. I am 5'5". I am gonna start back exercising this week though. I wanna lose 2 lbs a week.
