Finally had the courage to get on the scale...

and I am so depressed. I had estimated my weight about 20 lbs below where I actually am.

I have never been this heavy before.

I started taking small steps (eating better, exercising more) about a month ago and will keep going, but I just can't believe I let myself get in this state.

It just makes me so very sad.

I'm right there with ya, gal! I recently got on a scale for the first time in about years and was about 25lbs over MY guestimate....denial is a sad thing.

Hang in there...I've started the eating better but not back into the swing of exercise yet. And I've got an elliptical and Boflex sitting in my house! I'll get there....

Oh I've played that game too! When my father was dying I decided I could eat what I wanted and I'd deal with it later. Later I discovered what I thought was 20-28 pounds was actually 54!!!!!

Still I've nearly lost half of that now, so don't let it freak you out too much. Just use it as motivation. You CAN do it. Once you believe that you're on the right track.

Me too, me too! After the holidays I got on the scale and was WAY higher than I thought possible. But after a month of really pushing I'm getting down again! You can too. We're here to help!

Thanks for the support, folks. I think that's what I really need.

My food and exercise has been really good for the past couple of weeks, so I feel like I'm on the right track.

This morning was just something of a shock and I'm down about it.

I'm also now wondering about things I was hoping not to have to deal with like excess skin.

I'm 34, need to lose 78 lbs. I've been about 50 lbs overweight for gosh, 8-9 years now. I put on the last 28 just recently--since summer.

What do you guys think about the excess skin perspective? I know it's hard to say and I know I need to lose the weight anyway.

I was just thinking that I could get back the 125# body I had for most of my life. Since getting on the scale this morning, I'm not so sure.

Any opinions?

Here's a link to a thread about skin ... http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=36040

When people asked how much I weighed I'd say 160lbs and I really believed it, i went to ww and was 183...It was a reality shock!

Altari 01-25-2006 09:12 PM

My DL still says 160. That weight gain is my little secret...I'd tell the same thing to my doc, but she makes me jump on the scale.

Quick poll for those who read SusanB's thread : will you/would you get a tummy tuck? I'm thinking no, after watching those plastic surgery shows.

coley144 01-26-2006 04:26 AM

At the moment I'm not worried about excess skin. Its better than being really fat! I'll see what happens as I go along but I'm not going to let it bother me. I've worked in the health service and personally I wouldn't have an operation unless I really needed it. So I guess I'll get to the end of this and see if I think I REALLY need it!
