Weighing yourself

I'm sorry if this question has been asked (I'm sure it has at some point), but how often do you guys weigh yourself? Once a week? Every morning? Once a month? I think I'll try once a week and see how that goes. I'm just afraid of getting discouraged. What works best for you?

I weigh myself every morning but I only count my weight on mondays towards my ticker and fitday :)

Once a week. Except for the week I'm on my period. I don't like the readings at that time, lol.

I weigh myself on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Oh honey, don't apologize. That's what we're here for, support and encouragement. No question is a wrong question, no matter how many times it is asked ;)

I weigh myself once a week, Thursday mornings!

If I may still respond: I do it once a week on Fridays. I used to do it three or four times a day, but that's too frustrating. Once a week seems to keep me motivated.

When I started at your weight, I weighed once a week, once my weight loss started to slow down, I switched to once a month. I vary the frequency to whatever works. At the moment the weight is whizzing off again, so I'll weigh weekly until it slows.

I weigh myself every morning at the same time (right when I get up, after potty and before breakfast). I only count a weight change in my tickers if it's more than 1 pound and lasts for more than 1 day, but I record everything in FitDay.

 Thanks everyone. I can tell I'm gonna love it here!!!

I was weighing myself every morning, but with my recent weight fluctuations, I'm getting frustrated, so I'm going to back off and weigh once a week, Saturday morning. Tomorrow starts a new weigh week!

PhatPhoenix 12-30-2005 02:12 PM

My official weigh in is Monday mornings. That's the weekly one I record.

I do weigh daily but take any fluctuations on the chin - as they do even out, over a week. The reason I weigh daily at the moment is to put it into FitDay, then if I stall again, I will have a much more accurate picture of precisely what happened and why as I can compare any stall/gains with the record of what I've eaten, and hopefully nip any problems in the bud!

But I think generally, weighing is not a good diea at all and when I reach goal weight, I'll probably just weigh myself ocne a month or so to check I'm not too far off target. For many years I was skinny - and probably weighed myself only a couple of times in 15 years. I'm sure ignoring the scale is a good habit! But I'm watching it like a hawk with only 10lb to go now to goal!

I have read that the "Thin for Life" research indicates that most ppl who lose weight & keep it off weigh daily. They don't necessarily respond to any fluctuation, but they do keep track.

I weigh myself at home every morning right when I get up. My official weight is on the balance scale at the gym. There's usually 3-5 pounds difference between the two -- I'm clothed at the gym and have been doing my day. I keep track of "new lows" with either scale.

Weighing myself this often has helped me become less neurotic about any given weight -- I have seen my weight fluctuate depending on the time of the month, what I've eaten recently, and who knows what else. I'm an engineer by training (which means I love data :)), so that may have something to do with my approach also :).
