Worry Warts and stress eating gas prices

  • Well with the way gas prices are going and the way its taking its toll on us. I am putting myself in check to not to binge.
We are sitting on some hard times this next week and its alot to do with the rise of gas prices. School is starting and I havent even got a chance to buy my sons school clothes, heating costs are going to go up the only car we have needs to get the basics done oil change tires check radiator flushed etc .....
Im trying to not stress about it.At least I wasnt effected by Katrina those poor people. Im trying to just say day by day. I dont know I tried taking my mind off of it but its hard.
  • I hear ya on the gas prices. This morning our "cheap" gas station posted $2.77 a gallon for regular...and the one near my house is $2.92 (it was 2.85 yesterday and a week ago, I think it was hovering in the 2.59 range).

Recreational Eating isn't going to solve any of these problems, it will just bring you further away from your goals...and I KNOW you don't want to do that, you've already worked SO hard to get where you are right now!

I would recommend taking your mind off the worries, putting on your sneakers and go for a walk or run, or go to the gym - or if you're stuck in the house, put on some great music and dance your worries away! Movement always makes me feel better and if your son isn't in school yet, have him go walk (or ride his bike or whatever) with you! Get some fresh air and enjoy the day!
  • Theres a $3.92 price here
  • MA - Isn't that crazy? We just talked to family up in Traverse City area, and they have gas at that price too. We're at around $3.19 in Jackson, and I'm thankful I filled up last Friday at $2.75. I am NOT looking forward to heating costs this year.

(((hugs)))) We're all here for you, vent away or whatever you need to keep you from binging!

  • I don't understand how gas that is already bought and paid for can raise so much so fast...when the oil companies haven't even bought any oil at a higher price yet...I could see two weeks from now...or a month...but they have a LARGE supply of oil that was bought at a much lower price!!!
  • It's really worrying me, too. Our budget was so tight it squeaked anyway, and gas prices are going up so fast. They're price gauging, IMO. They see an opportunity to take advantage of one of the worst situations imagineable, and they're doing it. I don't want to say more because I'll rant and rave for ten pages if I do, but I am VERY worried about gas prices, too. I just pray that prices go back down. If they don't, my family is in big trouble.

Anyway, this is your thread. Just try hard to keep in mind that eating isn't going to make the prices go down or reduce your stress. Overeating will probably INCREASE your stress, because then you'll have to re-lose some pounds. Food doesn't fix it. Hang in there.
  • Anyway...the gas thing is kind of good in a way, IMHO. I know it's bad for those people who are going to have to shell out more for gas, but on the other hand it will convince more people to conserve gas, and drive less/walk more.
  • Just remember that a binge isn't going to lower gas prices. In fact, it will put you the position of having to replace those food items sooner and that cuts into tight budgets too.
  • I havent binged or even came close to it. I guess im just trying to forget about it. I used to get worried about something and grab for the food. But I havent and thats good. Yeah its still hitting us pretty hard specially since we acidently overdrafted on our checking and got a charge that we couldnt afford to begin with. Ugghhhh
We cant go to a festival that I like to go to every year thats going on this weekend because we cant afford that either. Alot of people around here are talking that they cant afford to drive to work.
And if it was not for the distance that we have to drive to our jobs then I would hop on a bike geeze I cant even do that now because my bike is out of commision. Messed up on me when I was riding to my sons school to pick up his schedule for the new school year.
All in all were doing alright right now we all cleaned out our Hamster "Waffles" Cages ,(yes our one hamster has many diffrent cages)
Okay three well four but I only connected three together this time.
I like to do that to give the little fella a nice big area. Yes thats our only pet...
So tommorow I thought about cutting the grass then the thought of getting gas for the lawn mower was like uggghh.
But it needs to be done since I have let it go a couple weeks.
So just keeping busy and doing other things is helping.
  • take a deep breath all I feel your pain. I've lived long enough to know worry want change the situation. It will just stress you out and the problem will still remain.
Yep, I was around during the gas shortage of the 70's and I did live in mississippi during hurricane camille in 1969. Tough times don't last this too will pass. Worry will ruin your peace and still your joy. So hang in there I will be praying for you guys
