the un-diet
I LOVE the French diet. I'm making homemade baguettes and granola (and eating them without guilt!), eating all kind of cheeses whose names I can't pronounce and a pound of which I can't afford, cream sauces, pasta, fatty yogurt, and butter butter and more European-style butter! In the grand scheme of things, I'm still sticking to around 1600 calories a day, but it doesn't feel like it. I savor every bite. I eat outdoors whenever I can and let my legs get a little sun and watch the squirrels jamboree around my yard. I drink French pinot noir with dinner that is so savory it could be a meal all by itself. Oh yea, and I'm eating potatoes! This is the first time I've had a potato in my house in like years. For dinner tonight it's potato leek chowder (made with butter and 1/2 & 1/2, mind you), turkey and Gruyere on toast (was supposed to be ham, but that whole kosher thing...), and WINE! I love this! Blows my mind that a few simple ingredients can make something so wonderful. I'm thanking my brother for getting me How to Cook Everything a few years ago, and my reward for my mini-goal (back in the 150s) is Julia Child's tome. This is something I feel like I could do for the rest of my life. See ya in ****, Oreos!
Tonight is my first TOPS meeting and weigh-in. My doctor sent me a note with the weight he would like me to be at (140, but I want to be 135) so I am set to go.
