One of my lightbulb moments is when someone said: "Your next healthy meal is only 2 hours away" ... It's like, yes I don't have to continue screwing up my day just because of one bad choice... OR "I'll start my diet on Monday" why? Live now!
Another one was as someone mentionned: .."Just because it is there, it doesn`t mean you have to eat it." Ain't that the truth... Another one is: "Talk to yourself like you are your own best friend"... I would never EVER tell a friend "You look like a fat slob in those pants!" I don't say "diet" anymore, it's a LIFESTYLE damnit  |
Learning portion control! Like Betani said, it didn't take many days of counting and measuring to realize how much I was over eating!
|
My lightbulb moment was realizing that the 'diet' is never over and that reaching goal is the only the first (and the easy) part of the journey. Keeping the weight off for the rest of your life is the hard part. Like Ilene said, it HAS to be a lifestyle because you're going to be living it -- everyday -- for the rest of your life. :smug:
|
My lightbulb moment  came when I realized that maybe I was as big as two people because I WAS EATING AS MUCH AS TWO PEOPLE! Duh
You are so right about portion control and keeping a food log :write: - it's the ONLY way I can keep on track. |
Oh, there are so many good insights in here. I'm only a month or so in and I am a fair-weather food journalist. Sounds like I better step it up a pace. :)
|
My light bulb moment was when I started planning ahead what I was going to eat. If I make a weekly menu and follow it, I end up with less waisted food and I have the food I need for my diet actually in the house. Rummaging in the cubbards to try to figure out what I want to eat or what's for dinner is the worst thing I can do. Too many temptations!
|
My recent moment has been realizing the power of a single day. As I have recently recommitted to a healthy lifestyle, it is amazing how even one successful day can give you this amazing power. You can gain so much momentum and control after a day of healthy choices.

Realizing that the weight won't all come off in a month -- not when I have 50 lbs. to lose -- let me wrap my brain around the idea that I would have to change a lot of habits. So I'm changing them little by little, the weight comes off little by little, I get littler and littler... :p But since weight loss is taking so long, I know the weight will stay off!

Who you surround yourself with is a big part of how you behave! My old roommate lived on cookie dough and quesadillas and I was always craving sugary fatty foods. Now I live with a bunch of health nuts and I've lost 20 pounds. Don't underestimate the effect of your environment! (that's not to say I didn't work for the 20 pounds but it was so much easier than before)

Signing up with a personal trainer- it made me realize that I can get results, and that, hey, who knew... I like working out!
Having a breast reduction- I was so happy not to have to deal with DDD boobs, but man did it make my stomach stick out more!! Signing up with WW- definitely something I wished I had done a long time ago! |
