New to site, Need support

I am so glad to have found this site. I will start by introducing myself, I am about to turn 41 this month :(. I have been on a reduced calorie diet for one month tomorrow, per my doctors recommendation. Starting weight 175 Goal is 140, current weight as of yesterday 167. I eat 1200 to 1500 calories a day, haven't exercised since starting due to a sprained knee. I had worked out for 13 weeks straight, treadmill and weights prior to decreasing my calories. Any way I would like to know if anyone has experienced a loss of 1-2 pounds one day and the next day gaining it back. I realize water weight and such can be the culprit, but it is hard to really know how much your down when this nonsense is going on :dizzy: I can not believe how hard it is to lose weight after you turn 35, never had this problem prior to kids. I have been keeping a food journal which has really helped, have to deal with hypothyroidism which is a real bugger. I hope to be down to my goal by early summer. Any suggestions to help speed up the process would be greatly appreciated. :D

Weight fluctuates CONSTANTLY due to all sorts of factors, especially for women. That's why you have to learn how to take the scale in stride if you weigh every day or even every week. here's my loss record for the last 10 days or so:

Sat: 180.0
Sun: 180.0
Mon: 180.0
Tue: 180.2
Wed: 180.2
Thu: 180.2
Fri: 180.2
Sat: 180.0
Sun: 179.2
Mon: 178.4
Tue: 179.0

And this is ABSOLUTELY NORMAL for me.

You might want to take a look at this article to help you understand the limitations of the scale and how to best use it without it driving you crazy: http://www.primusweb.com/fitnesspart...ight/scale.htm

Also, "speeding up the process" isn't always the best idea. Losing slowly, while sometimes more frustrating, is safe and is more likely to be a lasting weight loss. Losing quickly is often a signal that you are losing too fast for your body to adjust and it will do everything it can to hold on to and regain fat. Patience, grasshopper.

Thanks for the input! Maybe the answer is to throw the scale out the window. Ha!

yup- I agree- weight fluctuates day to day.. check this out... 4 lb "loss" in 1 day? and that's normal for me too- I bounce back within 3-4 lbs all the time...

If it IS driving you crazy, then toss it for a while until you feel more confident and focused about your behavioral goals.

Weighing every day is fine if you keep it in perspective and understand the realities. However, for a lot of people watching those numbers is simply one more reason to feel demoralized because they DON'T drop steadily and weird things DO happen that have nothing to do with your fat losses.

I think weighing frequently is necessary during maintenance, and is OK during weight loss once you get a handle on the emotional aspects. Until then, though, stay off of it if it will help you stay positive. Don't think that just because you've always weighed at a certain frequency, or that it works for other people, means you have to keep doing it. Do what works for YOU, and that includes breaking obsessions that mess with your head.

The third time I joined LA Weight Loss,I laid down a set of rules, both for the counselors and myself.I threw out my scale;I did NOT let them tell me how much I weighed-they could tell me if I gained, lost and when I reached my goal.Weight is just a number..you are much more than that!
