How thin can I get?
I have no idea where else to ask this question, so I figured what better place than the support board :)
Here's the thing - I have no idea what size/measurement is good for me. Ordinarily I would go by the law of averages, seems logical, right? Well, I'm 6' tall and pretty big-boned (no joke, really big-boned, not just an excuse ;) ), so average won't cut it since I don't quite fit with those dimensions. I'm also fairly large busted (38DD) and it's never fluctuated with my weight, so even when I lose it will probably still be there. I never measured myself before I started this WOE and exercising, always relying on the scale. I'm glad I'm measuring, it's given me more motivation etc. but I have no idea where I'm at or where I'm going as far as that is concerned. Currently I'm measuring at 45.0"-35.5"-47.5". I'm hoping there is at least one other person out there who has/had something close to my dimensions who can help me out. Is 23-25" too low to shoot for in the waist with my size? Size 8-10 too low? Average? What? I have no idea. I hate saying that :o Seems like I should know my body better, but I've never worn women's clothes so I have no idea what my size would/should be. I know I need to just shoot for a size where I'm comfortable without trying to fit into the norm, but humor me - I need to feel normal :) Thanks! |
That's going to vary wildly with your body composition. Two women can be the same weight and height but have different measurements (and wear different sizes) if they have different body fat percentages.
I've never worn "regular" women's clothes either, and even if I had, it wouldn't matter, because my body now is different than it was in the past. Rather than set a goal at a particular size or weight, my REAL goal is a certain body fat %. The recommended healthy % for most women is 18% to 25%. So, my first goal is to get to 25%. After that, I'm just going to see if I feel it's possible to go lower. I don't care, and can't predict, what my weight or size might be at that time. It's body fat % that really matters. |
Wow! I'd love to be 6' tall.... anyway, I have to say, size 10 is probably going to be too small for you. That's my goal, at 5'6". Size 10 might also be too short for you in the arms and legs, and not enough room in the shoulders. And I have to say, 23" - 25" in the waist sounds awfully tiny for 6' tall. I could be wrong, you may have a body that naturally settles there. Only you can judge if that's likely-- look at some of your tall close relatives who are at a lower weight. Do they tend to be that small? I think it's important to compare yourself only to other people in your gene pool. That way you'll get an idea of your natural potential.
There are some tall ladies here, and just off the top of my head I think their goals tend to be in the 160 - 180 range. Obviously that varies a lot from person to person, with body composition, as the previous poster said. You might send a PM to Aphil, as she is a professional seamstress and knows the technical aspects of the clothing business. There is also a poll called "Ideal Size?" in the polls section further down on this page-- it addresses this topic well. And try the BMI and bodyfat calculators on this site and out on the web, that will give you a good place to start thinking about where you want to be. Good Luck! |
Personally, I'd just say to play it by ear and find a size/weight that *you* are comfortable with and that you can maintain easily - KWIM? Don't worry about what others think or what the models in the magazines look like or say they weigh or whatever. I hear ya on the big boobs - they run in my family too! That's either good or bad, depending on your POV.
Anyway...I wouldn't focus on a scale number. I'm going to use myself as an example - at 5'4", my weight according to BMI and all that should be in the 110's-120's. However, with time, I've found that my Maintainable Weight is around 150. I can get as low as 143-145, but last time I did that, my period stopped for over 6 months. Besides, I'm a size four at 150, so no problems with clothes shopping. (I'm a realist, so I do realize that sizes have changed - my size four would have probably been a size 8 or 10 not so long ago...remember the old "I Love Lucy" episode where Lucy was starving herself to get into a dress in order to be in Ricky's show? The dress was a size 12 - this was in 1951...and Lucille Ball always had a gorgeous dancer's figure, even up until the year she passed away. So there ya go.) There's a snippet from a book I've often quoted titled "Get Thin Slowly" from Michael Fumento's Fat of the Land. Check it out... Quote:

Thanks
Thanks for all the suggestions :)
I do keep track of my BF%, and would like to get it down to around 22% give or take a few points. I don't rely on BMI so much becuase it doesn't take bone structure or muscle mass into account, which I don't like. I do have a sister that's my height, but medium boned. She has about a 20-22 inch waist and wears, I think, a size 6 or so, so maybe 25"/size 10 isn't too low to shoot for for me. I guess I'll just go by the comfort scale. It's a bit too early to think about all that now anyway - I'm just working towards those cute size 12 hip-huggers I bought a few months ago for motivation. I guess I'm just worried about being "big" all my life, LOL. I've always been called "big" even when I didn't have so much extra weight on so I'm just hoping for the impossible there - anybody know a way I can get down to 5'2"?  Better yet, maybe I should just sit down and have a long talk with my mom about all the comments, think that would help? I doubt it - you don't know my mom  Thanks again for all the help ladies! |
No worries - I don't even stress about body fat. It's not what you'd call an exact science, KWIM?
Once in awhile I'll jump on the scale, just for S&G's, but mostly I go by "look and feel" - or as it's also called "the pants-o-meter". I just figure - it's not like my BF% and weight is tattooed to my forehead or anything... but that's just me... :) |
Vanessa - I'm only 5'3". Why don't you give me some of your height and we'll both be 5'7"? ;)
|
Lol
Sure Star, I'd be willing to donate! And if you have any extra booty to donate I'll need some of that ;)

LOL you ladies are so funny. Well I am 5-6 and shooting for a goal weight of around 135-140 and a size 9. This was where I was at before when I was thin and I looked really healthy and good. I don't even think I could get down to a size 7 and I really woudln't necessarily want to. I think I would look to thin. When I was that size and weight I think I was like 36-27-36 or so (got some hip). I was very shaply but only a B chest. I really wonder now that I am a C if it will go away once I lose the weight. I am sure it will. I lose first in the arms and waste or stomach area. My thighs well they are a joke and last to go.
