You Guys Are Great!

Hi Everyone! I would just like to say to Diane.... WOW, you seem like a strong lady and I think we are all lucky to have you in our little group, your story is incredible and it goes to show you how strong the human spirit can be and how much fate is a part of our lives. You are so encouraging in all of your posts, and I will speak for myself here, but I find your words very motivating and insiteful.
But Iam sure everyone else will agree, Also to FMyself.....Do you mind if I ask your name? I dont think you ever put it on a post, and only if your comfortable with it. This is so cool, I dont even remember how i found this web site but I am so glad I did :dancer: Everyone have a good evening and by the way I drank more water than my goal..... I actually ran out of any other kind of liquid to drink so I was stuck....he he he Not a bad idea though maybe I will keep it that way, so there isn't any temptation!! night ladies

Wow Diane that is quite something. You've been through **** and back at an early age and you remain positive and supportive to others. I'm thrilled for you that you found your love again, it was obviously meant to be.
We're all going to reach our goals here with each other to lean on.
I love this site! :cb:
I'm going to try and work on the water thing too (straws help, you don't realize how much you are drinking). I went for a long long walk last night and still feel it but I feel good.
FM, the thing that motivated me was spring and summer. I am tired of being too hot and uncomfortable and have clothes but.....ummmm they no fit :dunno: so.......just by good luck I found this site and voila! I have friends in the same situation and will have the support and encouragement that I need.
The light at the end of the tunnel is a bright one

Britt_Leigh 04-30-2004 11:18 AM

wow, everyone has some awesome reasons to do this!
I think we have done the most difficult part telling ourselves the truth and caring enough about ourselves to want to change ! :p:bravo:
So I was thinking should we all pick a day of the week to weigh our selves and tell each other what we have lost? Then we can either cry :nono:together or give ummm internet hi-fives.:comp::high: Is Tuesday a good night for everyone?
And does anyone know how exercise is suppose to work? Is it manly cardio now and later toning? I have no clue how to tone?

This is really going work I can so feel it!:grouphug::strong:
GOOD LUCK! :bubbles:

Good morning April Chicks!

Britt, Hi! congratulations on your weight loss. :cp: Yay! As far as exercise goes it sounds like from one of your previous posts you are doing great. You should try to do cardio 20 min 3 times a week. As far as toning, I have done some Denise Austin tapes she has one I think it is tone and sculpt. I have been going to the YMCA, they gave me a free apt. with a trainer on all of the weights and that is what I am using. I guess it depends on what you like to do.

I'm not sure if I can weigh myself every week. I have scale issues. And if I don't see big changes I might go crazy and eat a pan of brownies :hungry: I would be more willing to do it once per month or every other week? What do you think? How would that work for all of you? If I am the only one who is greedy and wants to see bigger losses before I weigh myself then I will adjust and we can do it weekly. :D

I was thinking about a summer challenge. June 20th is the first day of summer. Maybe we could each set a goal that we want to achieve by that date? Just a thought? Also for a May challenge I was thinking that we could challenge each other to exercise, at least 3 days per week of cardio lasting min. of 20 min. ?? Let me know what you think? If you have other ideas or want to do one of these challenges? Might be fun.

Well, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Lots of fun!

Take Care
Dee

Right now my goal is by may 27 which is when my fiance is coming to visit and I going back up to fort stewart, ga with him I want to be toner. I haven't really lost any weight however I have lost inches so go me:cp:........

Hi chicks,

I want to thank all of you for the kind words and I'm happy
if I can inspire anyone.

What a long strange trip its been.

My life has been my life and although I can't change things I
can at least learn from them.

Britt: you said something about being honest with ourselves and
that is a big part of succeeding. For years all the mirrors in
my house were about chest high, If I caught my full legnth
reflection in a store mirror or a window I would quickly look
away..didn't want to face the truth...didn't want to be honest.

Now I am not ashamed anymore, what has happened to each one of us,
whether for medical reasons,abuse issues,control issues,depression etc.
Happened because we, for whatever reason turned off the button that
connects us to ourselves,I know that some of it can't be helped because
of medical reasons (some medications will put on pounds)but you still need
to get yourself as healthy as can be,ESPECIALLY if there are health issues.

However for the rest of us... whatever the reason.. we dealt with whatever was
happening at the time the best way we could, and sometimes, when we don't
know how to deal with something we escape,...drugs,alcohol,walls of anger,
walls of fat,suicide.

How much better honesty is than any of that, once we become honest we can start
to deal
with the issues that created the problem.
Fat is a symptom of deeper issues, and while this group is certainly not
able to take the place of a good therapist, I believe it is therapy of a
sort.****,they use group thrapy ALL the time..and this is FREE!!
So thank you ALL for being here, you inspire me too, every time one has a
success..we ALL do, because it shows us what we all can achieve.

Gosh I sure can go on....

And now here I go again...

HCHIC-what a great idea!!Nothing to drink BUT water in the house,
now that should do the trick!!

Nona- thats a great idea about the straw.
I also find I can actually drink more at a time if its at room temp.

Britt-5 LBS !!!!WHOO HOOO YOU are on your way, I know you'll reach your goal.

Scorchin-AAWWWW its so wonderful your guys getting out,and its also wonderful
that you care so much for him.Your outlook is so great after what must have
been a really hard time for you.

Fmyself-hey you,I'm so glad we're buds too. I totally understand about the scale
issues, heck it took me 5 years just to buy one(bought last summer) I was so
scared that it wouldn't go up high enough.
I think if you feel comfortable weighing in every 2 weeks thats fine, those that
want to every tues. night-wed morn. can post and you just leave it blank, then
post on the next week, but you may have to in between if we end a challenge
on your off week, how's that??

OK on the cardio...I think 3 days a week at 20 min. is fine, unless you do nothing
now. Then start at 10 min. OR whatever you can do, some of us are starting at
ALOT of weight and just moving may be a BIG improvement.

Someone post the formal challenge...and say "start" and I'm there BABY!!!!

Also, should we start an "April chicks #2 thread" when we hit 4 or 5 pages??
Just so each one doesn't get too long??

Ok now that is far more than enough,

Wish we were together in person doing this,
Diane

ralphmarie 04-30-2004 07:08 PM

I also wanted to let ya'll know that at the top of this page under the pic of the 3 chics there is "calender", if you would want a private journal you can click on this and it will take you to your private calander where you can record things, NO ONE can look at it.
So if you need to let off steam and use some choice words, or record events or just yack away at yourself there it is. Also they do not get purged, will be there forever.

hippiechic 04-30-2004 10:01 PM

Hola, April Chicks!!!

I think the every other week idea sounds good, or even every week, There is only one thing I need ........... a SCALE.... Like FM I also have issues with scales and stay away from them at any cost, but I stepped on one last week that I was going to buy, looked at the weight, got off the scale and then vowed never to buy it. But thats silly, the scale wont be that bad as long as the number is shrinking...he he he... So tomorrow my goal for the day is to drink 4 glasses of water(since I started at 0 glasses a day two days ago) and purchase a scale, no matter how much it says i weigh  ! I love the May challenge, exercise is one of those things I always put off until tomorrow, then tomorrow never comes. I have a new yoga/pilates video, and I have Tai-bo, which is pretty high impact but I will try it for awhile and hope it doesnt affect my joints (because of my illness some things are not good for me to do) but i try them anyways. And I will also be out dancing the night away, usually two weekends out of the month (and thats, about 4 or 5 hours straight) Dancing never feels like exercise :D So I can do it for that long, which is weird cuz if I tried to run I would probably pass out.... he he he anyways ladies, I gotta go for now. talk to ya soon,
JAMIE

favepairobluejeans 04-30-2004 11:58 PM

hiya, can I join? I met two of you last night in the Chat room, I was signed in as "porkbelly". This group looks really great, everybody seems supportive, and willing to work hard to accomplish their individual goals. I could really use some support, since nobody here at home cares if I lose weight or not. Well, I think my hubby cares, but he won't say anything to me other than that he thinks I'm sexy no matter what....well, I'm sure there's a little truth to that, but when he saw my old size 8 jeans when we unpacked from moving, he did ask when I was going to wear those again, so that means he cares, right????

Talk to you all soon! Lisa

We have contest, :cp: games, :write: information, and most of all SUPPORT :grouphug: . The weekly weigh in :goodscale helps you too. I am doing real well so far and know that i will succeed this time :bravo: . It is a lot easier when you are not alone. Good luck to you all on whatever plan you are on.

Hey There

Hey there, I've just read through your thread and wanted to pop in and say (in case you didn't know it) that you guys rock! You are all on your way to winning your battles with weight and becoming healthy. Give yourselves a pat on the back - sometimes starting is the hardest part (it was for me). My entire bio is posted on the Alternachicks thread, but here are my basics - I started this journey at the end of July last year, my starting weight was 264 pounds :o I'm at 211 now and am riding the train to "Onederland." It's been slow going at times, frustrating, difficult and totally rewarding. Right now my biggest challange is PATIENCE ... I noticed that there's a lot of discussion about water on the board (come to think of it I had better go grab some right now) . It takes time, but at some point you'll all find that the amount of water your body craves will increase. You might try "spicing" it up with lemon, lime, pineapple or orange wedges, or some mint leaves - experiment with it. I've also got scale issues (how can such a little machine hold so much power over you?) So, if it really freaks you out, you might consider tracking your progress by taking your measurements instead or in addition to weighing yourself. Just a thought. Good luck! Grace

Hello April Chicks I've very new i started my diet 12 days ago. This web site is the BOMB!! I LOVE IT. All the support is wonderful. I'm just so tired of being fat. I think every week for the last 5 years i've been starting a diet on a Monday quitting on a Wednesday and starting back the next Monday. I know some of you know what i mean :) This time i promised myself i'm going to get it right. I refuse to but a size 22, i 'm tired of my thights rubbing together, i'm sick of being tired after going up one flight of stairs, i'm sick of all the health problems, not being able to wear a swim suit without covering up with a towel (blanket) Now i'm becomming depressed. Enough is enough now i'm taking back CONTROL of my life. So please all of your encouragement is really appreciated, i would love all the advice you give. I am currently doing low-carb it acturally working out pretty good at this point. I have not had any craving for sweets, paste or rice only BREADS thats my downfall but i have been looking at BREAD as my  Just to have someone to talk to , to listen to understand, that going thought the same thing is so wonderful Thanks 218/211/140

ralphmarie 05-01-2004 04:57 PM

WOW WE ARE GROWING!!!!!
I want to welcome
favepair-hang in there GIrrrlll we'l help get you back into those size 8's.And March is close enough to April for me..lol

Bearzy-thanks for the heads up on tops, wish I could join but the only meeting in the closest town is wed.morn at 9am.Hubby is gone all week, and I don't drive.

Grace-thanks for dropping in and for your good advice, girl please come back often

Evettee-thanks for being here, if you don't have the book for lowcarb let me know and I would be happy to send you mine. Lowcarb is fine but please do it the healthful way,
all these products out there are trying to make a buck, but there is a good way to do it.

Well here it is the first day of May and my DH is leaving tomorrow to go back to the city so I will have plenty of time for our May challenge, I guess I will formally start it now....

April Chicks May Challenge....commit to cardio exercise 3x per week for 20 minutes a pop.

If you cannot do 20 min. commit to MOVING YOUR BUTT as much as you can 3x per week working up to at least doubling the time you start out at by the end of the month,
If you can only go for 5 min work up to 10, if you start at 10 work up to 20.

We just want EVERYONE moving more than they are now.

Alright chickees, when a commercial comes on RUN to the kitchen and drink a glass of water.

Diane

aprillpepper 05-01-2004 05:12 PM

:D Hi to all the April Chics....my name is APRIL!! And I was invited to join in April...today is the first day of May...I'm late :p ...

I am trying once again to lose weight...my lowest weight since having kids is 160...my current weight is 190....I have a long way to go to get to my goal weight of about 145...ok..really only 45lbs....and to me that seems impossible....im trying to incorporate exercise into my already busy life...I have 2 young ones...ages 3 and 7....and I am doing the single mommy thing...I left a bad marriage after 6 years in it...and its been 2 years single now...but I am seeing a wonderful man...he loves me and loves me for who I am....I am starting out with some daily walking...and have also cut out soda pop which I drank at least 2 20oz bottles and about 2-3 cans a day... the calories really added up!!!...I am also cutting out the vending machines at work...no more snacks from there....and counting calories trying to stay around 2000 calories to hit my goal weight of 145....and its hard....I never knew how the calories add up so fast....I have been doing the calorie counting for about 1 week now...so my start date was about April 26th....

I have tried other ways to lose weight before....and the pills Xenedrine worked for me...but then I read all the bad stuff about them..and quit taking them....So now its on to good old exercise and calorie counting.....

Anyways...will check in here again to see how i can help....or to see whats up...thanks to all u april chicks....derra and diane, thank you....

I think I posted a profile the right way on here....and a picture :o ...anyone caring to know more...feel free to check it out...take care all!!!
