BMI scale and obesity
So I'm quite aware of the obesity vs morbid obesity scale, I'm roughly a 44.1 on the BMI scale right now and morbid obese but I can't figure out which category I am. I've read there's 3 classifications of morbid obesity. There's morbid obesity (just being maybe 100 lbs overweight and having a BMI of 40 or greater.), then there's severe obesity which is from 40-50, and then super obesity which is greater than 50. I think the people greater than 50 are usually the sensationalized ones that you see on tv who are like 400-1000 lbs and most of them can't get out of bed. I guess I'm frustrated because I've lost about 20 lbs but I'm still morbidly obese.

It's just a label - I would focus more on where you should be based on your own goals, body height, and health. I'm around 33 BMI right now - that's obese too, but I don't really "care" about having that label. I just want to be healthy and happy.
Maybe that doesn't help you though? A chart like this might help you out - http://www.healthyandnaturalworld.co...-can-tell-you/ It doesn't look like 44 is on there, but would fall under the extremely obese. Keep doing what you can to get that weight off and the bmi will come down when the weight comes off. *hugs* |
The Classifications are as follows: Overweight 25.0–29.9, Obese 30.0–34.9, Severe Obesity 35.0–39.9 and Morbid Obesity is 40+
It is class 1, class 2 and class 3. It looks like you're morbidly obese, I was when I first started out and now I'm only overweight. Let this be your motivation! |
Yeah but people who are 200 or more lbs overweight, are they in a different category of morbid obesity?
