My doctor told me that my D levels were really low, but when I began supplementing I couldn't sleep at all. I would go on and off it and there was no question it was the D. Turns out I was deficient in a lot of vitamins and minerals and taking the D was bad for me without fixing my other deficiencies. Now I supplement lots of things, including D3, in addition to taking a daily multivitamin and I'm MUCH healthier (and less hungry) for it.
You may not have severe deficiencies in addition to magnesium (which, since you're living in a stressful situation, I'd bet you have) but I wanted to mention my initial problems with supplementing D3 in case you run into problems too. While I believe the stress exacerbated my deficiencies, I think their root cause were horrible pregnancies where I vomited around the clock until the babies were born or miscarried. Also, one final thought - Be careful if you decide to supplement mag. A lot of the cheaper versions are not well absorbed and just cause diarrhea. Mag taurate (also sometimes called Mag taurine) is supposed to be well absorbed and good specifically for stress so that's why I take it but it is a little pricier. I think Mag citrate and mag glycinate are supposed to be better absorbed than mag oxide and still relatively inexpensive. |
I am going through a stressful time right now - well, our whole family is, since we are trying to move across the country and securing a new house has been a huge struggle, on top of packing and clearing out junk etc etc - and my kids are suffering for it. The 12yo (suspected ASD, no diagnosis yet) and the 11yo (diagnosed Asperger's) are constantly at each other's throats - what one does as a tick, the other finds incredibly annoying and vice versa. Good times.
I've also been looking at my husband's behaviour in a new light and I think he might be on the spectrum as well. It really doesn't mean much at this point in his life, but it has meant that I'm changing the way I interact with him ever so slightly and things are smoothing out between us a lot faster, which helps during this stress for sure. I ask the kids if they feel upset or stressed while the house is in chaos with the move looming, and they say no. Their behaviour says otherwise. |
God help you, Raisin
Any kind of change upsets ASDers. I mean, when I put the salt shaker on the wrong side of the pepper, DH twitches. And of course, asking them doesn't help because they lack insight into what's bothering them. It's amazing, though, how our having insight can really help smoothe over things here and there. |
Thank you! I feel like I'm doing well, all things considered. Daily meditation and running are huge stress relievers for me so I am ensuring I do both regularly and/or daily.

My 6 year old son is not considered "autistic" but the syndrome that he does have mimics autism in the behavioral side.

Hi, Jtri
My DH has Asperger's, which is on the spectrum. Is that what your son has? |
How do they diagnose Aspbergers? There is an adult in my extended family who has never been diagnosed but his behavior appears to be Aspbergers. Not sociable. Has a very regimented routine, and hates change.
|
No, my son has Cri du chat syndrome. It's where the short arm of chromosome 5 is deleted and part of chromosome 20 is duplicated.
