7 Week Plateau Finally Over!
Whew! I thought I would never lose weight again. That I had reached my limit. That's what my heart told me but I know in my head that's not so. That was the longest weight plateau I have ever experienced!
But I finally broke it this week and lost 2 lbs and continuing to lose weight. I never gave up. Got depressed a lot but never gave up!:carrot: |
Hooray!!!! I'm so glad you were able to wait it out. Did you do anything different to get it moving again?

I checked my notes on my first few weeks and noticed that I may have had a little calorie creep during the plateau. So I tried using the daily average calorie intake for those weeks I was losing and it worked.
I know it sounds simple but it wasn't as easy as all that. It was not noticeable at first because I have gone through plateaus before and I had adjusted my calorie intake after the first few weeks to include more protein and low glycemic carbs which helped me lose more weight later on. I am thinking that because I have lost over 40 lbs now I must readjust my calorie intake to reflect that. Which was what I thought I was doing in the first place but apparently not. |
Applevalleygirl, way to go! The fact that you became aware of what was going on and acknowledged that you had to change things up is impressive. Great job! :cp:

Well done! You must feel like you're on Cloud 9 now. Take that confidence boost and use it for the next 40 pounds. You've got this!

I'm so happy to see this post. I am entering week 7 of a plateau and I'm losing hope. It's hard not to binge when this happens so the viscous cycle begins. I'm terrified that the weight is gonna start creeping back on. I think that your story gives me hope and let's me know to keep strong. Thank you for sharing and congrats. I hope I can make a similar post very soon

Hi kiwi! Definitely don't give up or give in! Like you I was getting really depressed and feeling let down. I kept up with my diet but to no avail it seemed.
Going back over my weekly notes I was able to spot a slight change in my diet that was caused by the plateau. I had started eating more snacks and adding more calories that I didn't think would matter here and there. But seeing that on paper helped me to fix it. I also started moving more; more exercise, gardening, house cleaning, etc. Just keeping myself busy more also helped break the plateau. I also had to keep remembering that the lower my weight gets the harder it gets and I have to keep adjusting my calorie intake to reflect my new weight. Since the plateau broke I have lost 4 new lbs so I am happy! It will happen, you just have to keep at it. |
thanks for your story and reaffirmation that it can be done. Its such a bad cycle that happens when you plateau. I am trying to get my mind right and get back on track. The diet definitely suffered with the plateau, but I am working on it. I realized that the best motivation for my diet was actually losing weight so when that slowed down so did the motivation. I am working on it. Thank you again for sharing. It really helps a lot. Makes me not want to give up. :)

You are so right about the motivation being from losing the weight. I noticed that too during that long plateau. My motivation was gone. That was the hardest part plus not giving in to splurges! But it did help to re-evaluate my strategy and I gained some motivation from that. So maybe try a little change up in your routine to help you out. Good luck kiwi!!!! Hugs!!

7 weeks... that's a killer!! but congrats on breaking through!
|
oh wow you made it! Just power through to the end, you got this!
|
Since the plateau ended last week I have lost 5 lbs total! The good news about a plateau ending is that I drop several lbs right after. So plateau's are normal I know and suck the energy and motivation right from under you. But if you plan to expect them and have some strategy mapped out for them it may help you get through it. Haha! I almost feel like an expert on this. I have gone through about 3-4 plateaus since I started my weight loss. But that 7 week one was a doozie!!

I'm glad you didn't give up. I know when I get stuck it is hard to stick with the plan. Great job!
