Hi all,

I'm new to the site, I'm just getting really upset with myself- tears and all! I try to lose weight and I seem to keep gaining it! I diet for a day and then I binge eat and I binge eat so much!i just need some motivation that I can do this... As I'm really getting myself down and don't know whether I'm going to ever be successful! How can you stay focused what can I do???

Any support would be much appreciated

Thanks!

Hello there. I'm sorry to hear you're feeling so down on yourself. Let me start off with saying that struggling with your weight isn't a moral failing. You need to give yourself some slack.

I'm just guessing, but I would say based on what you've said that you're putting a lot of pressure on yourself. Maybe rather than having a diet as such, what you should try is to come up with one little change that feels easy to you. Something to get you a little win to build your confidence. Absolutely no beating yourself up if you don't do it everyday. Definitely no beating yourself up if you binge.

After you master this habit, try another. Slowly you'll build a new lifestyle for yourself. Mastering a healthy lifestyle is like learning to play an instrument. You wouldn't expect to play the guitar like Jimi Hendrix in a day, or a week, or a month, or a year. You wouldn't think you we're a failure if you played one wrong note, or a 100.

Every successful dieter has good and bad days. Even after working on this lifestyle change for a year and having lost almost 80 lbs., I still overeat and even binge occasionally. But I'm so much better than I was a year ago. If I fall down 8 times I get up 9.

Just keep trying. You'll get there.

As humans it's natural to give reasons or excuses to skip or stop certain uneasy tasks and hence your frustration is self-explanatory.

But let me quote Julie Andrews words, "Perseverance is failing 19 times and succeeding the 20th".

Every hard work is proportionally appreciated and with that in mind keep going. Your motivation will increase when you start seeing positive results. There is nothing impossible and hence don't give up.

For staying focused, I have only one comment to make. Don't buy the unnecessary food stuff which attracts you and try to distract your mind from overeating by doing some other tasks like reading or walking or gardening etc.
