Eating under calorie limit but still gaining

  • Think you could give us a little more information please? There are a few things I think it could be, but don't know without more specifics. I'm new to this too.

How much is your calorie count exactly?
How much under are you eating?
    How much are you drinking?
What are you eating and drinking?
What does a typical day of food or typical few days of food look like for you?

  • I suggest you continue doing what you're doing. Some of your initial weight loss was surely water weight, and perhaps you've been retaining water these past couple of weeks. If you continue to eat under 1,400 cals per day, I'll bet my last dollar that you'll lose weight.

Also, 'starvation mode' as commonly understood is a myth. Your metabolism may slow down, but never to the point that you'll stop losing. Or else starving people and anorexics would be fat. If you ate 800 cals per day for a month (not that I'm suggesting this), you would lose more weight than if you ate 1,200 cals per day for a month. Guaranteed.

  • Another thing you might try is to doublecheck your calorie count. Do you weigh your food? Measure it with cup measures? Eyeball your portion sizes? The more accurate your measuring, the more accurate your calorie count will be. I found when I was first starting out, I had to measure absolutely everything because what I thought was a regular portion and what was actually a regular portion didn't have anything in common. Now I'm a bit more lax, but now I know what a proper portion looks like. If I were to stall out, I'd go back to the kitchen scale and cups to be sure I was eating what i thought I was.
