Just a quick hello!!!

Spryng- wow it sure sounds like you defused WWIII at your house! (could your MIL be related to mine?? ). Sorry that you got no walk in - I know you will get one in soon! Hang in there.:)

Tami- well, did you get out for that night out or not? Sounds so familiar to me, sometimes, I suffer from the same thing. You made a great step foward with your eating this weekend. It is so important to realize that we will all have good days and bad- and actually as long as the bad days are not too bad or often you will still lose regularly. Chinese is tough- I read at the WW site that a normal chinese food portion of general Tsao's chicken is- get this- 1,600 calories!!!!!!!!! How awful!!!!!! Hang in there and get back on track this week!:) Yes, I am on WW- and love it. It is so flexible.

Karen- great news that you are healing so well and feeling better!
And even better that you can get some excercise in- my Dm is a type 2 diabetic and her blood sugar is much easier to keep in line when she gets her dancing in(she teaches line dancing to seniors). The good news is that with weight loss and excercise- (walking is just fine) both problems could come out fine and you could avoid a ton of meds. I'll be praying for you!!!!!!!!:)

Gotta scoot- I promised to take Dd shopping for school stuff.:(
Gonna miss the little bugger when she is at school! Then off to pick up Ds from bball camp/week 2. Got my 2.5 mile walk in this am and eating is ok as of now......have a great nite and hope to get back later!
Ginny
(hey, Jackie, we miss you!!!!!!!!!)

Hello

I am 30 yrs old and have two beautiful kids. I am home schooling my 4 year old. I have tried to lose weight for 10 years, it seems I have been on a diet since I was 12 yrs old. I am just starting to get serious about "Sugar Busters!" My Mom gave me the book about 6 months ago and I have read the book but was not really ready to do it for real. Now, I am. I am hoping that getting connected with some other people who are doing the same will help me achieve my goal. I weighed in today at 217.5 lbs. My ideal weight for my height is 150-160lbs, so I really do have a long way to go. :) Any advice or support for starting out would be greatly appreciated.:^:

spryng 08-04-2003 02:37 PM

Karen I have been on Atkins too. That is how I lost all my weight after my 2nd child. I really like that it helps you lose fast but after awhile the menu gets boring. And after the 2nd week (after the induction phase) you can't have all the veggies or fruits you want... you increase your carb intake by 5 carbs. So if you were only eating the 20 grams the first two weeks then week 3 you can up it to 25 grams and then week 4 , 30 grams but all the while monitoring your weight closely so you don't stop losing weight all together. At least that is how my book reads. I never got off the induction phase. I stayed at 20 grams for the duration of the diet. But this is also a plan you can't deviate from. If you cheat even once it will throw you out of ketosis and then you have to start over and it takes 2-3 days to get back into ketosis. I always hated that. But all in all it is an excellent plan to lose weight with and hopefully it can get you to your goal weight and once your diabetes is under control (or gone!) you can go back to normal eating with no problems. And I am so glad that your surgery was a success!!
Welcome Lane!! I am Spryng. I'm 23 with 3 beautiful kids, they are Ava (3 1/2), Joseph (2 1/2) and now little Tanner (6 weeks old tomorrow) I've been married for 5 years now and have been battling my weight since I became married. I've tried all kinds of diets but sugar busters wasn't one of them. I'm not too familiar with the plan so you'll have to fill me in on it. :) But I think you have come to the right place for support. I hope you feel at home. The plan I am on right now is my own. I'm just trying to watch my portions (I eat off a salad plate instead of a dinner plate and such) and cook lowfat and low-calorie. I have about 40 some lbs to get off now and I know it's a long battle. I have a recumbant bike I try to get on and I also am taking walks to get my exercise in. But I am looking forward to getting to know you better and I hope to see you here often!! :)
Ginny sounds like you are doing good so far today!! And I miss Jackie too. I hope she posts soon.
Well I guess I'll get off here. I need to scour the net for a fish recipe. TTYL!

lovnmom 08-04-2003 05:47 PM

Ginny, it's so great you and dd get out and move together. I find many times taking 1 or more of the children along ends up very rewarding sometimes they talk about things they'd never bring up at the dinner table!....Tami, I belong to an Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. How about you?......Spryng, Hang in there. It sounds like mayber your MIL is resenting your SIL living in her home. Maybe if your SIL isn't paying rent she sees the cleaning as her part and doesn't want you doing it for her!?!?! WHo knows, but it sounds like you hung in there and renting a dvd that FIL wanted to see was a good step........Karen, Glad your healing well and getting back to most everything you did bafore. I've got friends who've lost more than 50# a piece since the first of the year on Atkins. It seems to work for weight loss, but I'm a little surprised your dr. suggested it. Good luck to you getting the sugar under control......Lane, Welcome to the SAHM's. I think you'll love it here. I'm so happy you're taking the first steps to a happier healthier you!.......AS for me, so far anOP day even with all the sweets surrounding me at vbs. We had a great first day. I totally adore the village leader (head councellor), but would love to give one of them an attitude adjustment. Maybe it's just me butttttt...we live in a very small town and between the 3 churches we had 33 children attend today which is down by 20 - 25, but it made for a nice managable group and probably more will show tomorrow after word gets out that so and so went and then so and so's mom will say oh I forgot all about that. You know the drill. I did get up early and get a 3 mile walk in with the pooch. It was just what I needed. I always sleep so little before the first night of vbs, or sun. school, or soccer, or, or, or.So tonight I should sleep well. Here I am blabber puss'n away. Have a great day all!

Kristi - you would be surprised to see how many studies and papers are out there on Atkins and Diabetes. Part of the reason diabetics are overweight (So they say) is due to insulin. Eating carbs causes insulin production and too many carbs for an insulin resistant person also causes the pancreas to over produce insulin. When you read the case studies it makes sense.

How fun! My kids do VBS to, but this year with the surgery I had to cancel. I love to work in the craft room with the kids!

WELCOME LANE! You will love it here! This group is the most help ful and encouraging group! :)

ECmom 08-04-2003 07:52 PM

Hi!
Never thought that I would be back here again, but Dh had me check something out here, so hehehehe........I'm back!:D

Welcome Lane!!!!!!!:) I am the thread fossil here, mother of 3 (Dd 17, Ds 14 and Dd 7). Would have loved to home schooled Dd (7) but Dh is against home schooling:( . But don't take offense at that! I have heard a bit about sugar busters and know of successes with it. Good luck!! Do you get any excercise? You must be tall (how nice!) judging from your goal weight. At my lofty height of 5'4 1/2" (cough, cough) well...... I have a great view of other peoples feet!:D My advice to you- as you begin your journey is to get a walk in each day- even 15 minutes helps! and drink lots of water. 6-8 glasses a day. It really helps cut that sugar/sweet craving. Welcome again!

Karen- sorry that your kids won't make it to VBS this year. It is usually so much fun- but you have a higher priority this year. Rest up! How did today go for you? Have you embraced Atkins yet?

Spryng- did you find a good fish recipe? During jury duty, one of the men suggested www.allfoods.com- I have never been there but he sounded like quite a cook (or he talked a good talk! ).
Fish is tough - for me. I never know what to do with the stuff.
Have you had an inlaw free day today? I hope at least a less stressful one! Hope you got some excercise in to burn off yesterday.

Well, I did get some (most) school supplies in for my kids. Gosh, that is expensive!!! Other than that, it has been sort of quiet.
Ds had a great time at bball camp. Dd heard from a college coach, but the school is 8 hours away from home, and I do not think that fact has set in her head yet. I am concerned that she might not be all that happy that far from home(no matter how irritable with us she gets! ) My eating has been pretty good.
Guess I'd better go!!!! Have a great nite and see ya tomorrow!
Ginny

spryng 08-04-2003 10:33 PM

Good evening all.
Well today went downhill fast. I feel awful. It stormed most of the day so I didn't get to take a walk, DH had tons of homework and couldn't help much with the baby so I couldn't get on my bike and I did some stress eating on top of it. UGH. Can you say "self-disgust?" Hopefully tomorrow is better. It's WI day but I know it hasn't went down so I'm thinking about skipping the WI until next week and my life settles down again.
Now that DH is in school he can't help me with Tanner at night anymore so it's all on me. I was so tired today from getting up all night with him plus having to function today. And here we go again tonight. Hopefully my body adjusts to it soon. I guess I was spoiled with the every other night routine we had. Tanner will be 6 weeks old tomorrow. Hopefully he'll sleep through the night soon. My other two did at 6 and 7 weeks respectively. So here's going to hope.
Well, I just laid Tanner down so I need to go out too. Talk to you all tomorrow.

ECmom 08-05-2003 09:14 AM

Good morning!!!!!!
Well, I just saw an interesting segment on Good Morning America.
It was about 2 women who overcame (or are in the process of) overcoming emotional eating. They both had lost 20- 30 # each in the course of about 2 months (I think)- and the diet/excercise guru mentioned several things, none of them very earth shattering or enlightening. One was, however, 8 minutes of weight training a day- to build muscle mass in the body so that you burn calories at a faster rate. The other (hehehehe!!!:D ) was to connect 3x a day with others who share your journey.......he has his own web site(Surely subscriber based!). So, SEE we have to connect 3x a day with each other......just what I needed, a cheap excuse for posting!

Ok, nuff stupid stuff from me. I got 3.5 miles of walking in this am, and thankfully the car pool is taking Ds to Bball camp today, so I can stay home and clean. Aw, the house is a mess, I don't mind!

Spryng- don't get down on yourself!!!! You might (and only you know the answer to this) find it better to get on the scale as gentle "kick in the can"- but if you think it will just depress you then don't. I know on my up weeks at WW, I find that I become angry and all the more focused. But you have just been thru an emotional weekend and your hormones are still all over the place.
Your body is still returning to normal- and now you are facing all of Tanner's care by yourself. Hang in there, hon, we love you! Try to enjoy those precious night feedings.....when it is so quiet and you can just stare at his sweet little face without interruption. Hope that your night ended up ok and that today is a fresh beginning for you!
Have a great day everyone!
Ginny

spryng 08-05-2003 09:41 AM

Good morning all!
Thanks Ginny for the encouraging words. I did go ahead and WI this morning and yes it said I have gained.. no suprise. I really need to buckle down and do this right. So today is a new day right? So I'm going to take advantage of it. The sun is shining with no hint of rain so I will try and get my walk in when DH gets home this evening and I'm going to eat good today. I plan on a lean pocket for lunch and maybe a lean cuisine or fish for dinner (yes I did find a simple recipe) with a nice salad.
So I haven't given up nor am I going to let this set me back. I'm just going to have to try harder no matter what stress there is in my life. Oh and Tanner was a dream last night. He went to bed at 9:30 pm and slept until 5 am, got up and drank his bottle and laied back down at 6am until 8 am. So it wasn't a bad night at all. I'm feeling pretty good today.
Ok, well he's starting to get fussy so I better go pick him up. Have a great OP day all!

lovmykiddies 08-05-2003 11:07 AM

Morning!!!

Well ladies I MADE myself go to my Mom's night out last night and it was just a blast! We grilled out at another woman's house and just sat around with no kids, had a few drinks:o, and chatted! Do any of you ladies have a MOMS club in your area??? Ds's friends mom kept telling me about it and I never paid a lot of attention but then I decided to try it out and it has literally been the BEST thing I've been involved in!!! We have a playgroup everyother week, tons of activities, and a Mom's night out once a month! I think for awhile there I was feeling really lost being a stay at home mom and once I found this group I really felt like I fit in somewhere!

Anyway, I actually have to hustle out to the grocery store so I'll be back later!!!

Tami

KarenW 08-05-2003 12:15 PM

Tami - Thant moms group sounds so wonderful! I wonder if there is one out by me... I am going to have to check into it.

Spryng - dont get frustrated. Handling 3 kids is tough! especially on lack of sleep! give your self a chance to adjust. It will all work itself out! It will! I promise. right now it is still a "fly by the seat of your pants" until you find what works for you! and once that happens, then you will see the control in the weight loss arena too!

Ginny - Actually, I think that connecting 3x a day has a lot of merit! :) Even if I dont post, I try to read here at least 2 times a day! LOL! I might have to try for that third time! :) Good for you getting out for that walk! When you walk, are you power walking with weights or do you just do a good heart raising pace? Just curious as I always use the treadmill!

As for me, I am doing well. My first day on Atkins I did really well. I didnt crave any sweets or chips which is a good thing. that usually happens on my first day of anything! especially with TOM due in 2 days! LOL. I didnt get my walk in as I was goig from grocery shopping to dd's 5 year old check up to dance... LOL! Today I promised myself that the kids and I would walk. We have a new subdivision opening up a few blocks away and I want to see the houses. It will be about a mile round trip so I think that Might be a good start.

Ok.. Off to get breakfast in and then get the kids out for that walk! I have lots of web stuff to do this afternoon on the kids school website so I will be back at some point this afternoon!

spryng 08-05-2003 01:47 PM

Karen sounds like you are off to a good start! Good for you! And you are right... once I get into some sort of routine around here I will feel much better.
Tami how do I find out if there is a mom's group around here?? I would love to be part of one especially since my DH is about to be gone ALOT. I may get to see him once every two weeks or so in sept. I will feel really alone so a mom's group would be heaven. I have only lived here for 11 months now so I don't have any friends here (DH's family doesn't really count as friends) I would love to make some friends with other SAHM's.
Well today I am OP!! So far anyway. I had a blueberry special K bar for breakfast, a lean pocket for lunch (I really love those things) and have my whiting filets thawing out for dinner. I plan to make some sort of rice and a big salad with it. So I think I will do ok today. I also bought some cut up veggies for snacks if I get hungry later and feel like cheating. So I'm really trying to be good. I want to see these lbs I put back on gone by next WI.
Well better get off here. Talk to you all later!!

KarenW 08-05-2003 02:26 PM

Spryng - try this website http://www.gospelcom.net/mops/ I dont qualify anylonger as my dd is now in kindergarten, but they are BIG here in WA and also in CA when I lived there. Everyone I know loves being a part of them!

lovmykiddies 08-05-2003 02:40 PM

Spryng--check out the website...I believe it is www.momsclub.com Sounds like you're having a great OP day! It's soooo hard not to get discouraged when you have a bad day and see the scale going up! Keep your chin up!

Karen-Do you use weights or anything when you're using the treadmill??? I'm just curious because we just bought a treadmill and I'm debating about using weights.

Ginny--Great job getting out for a walk! I soooo wish I had the willpower to get up before everyone else and just get out by myself! It would be so peaceful and relaxing! Maybe someday I'll have to try it!

As for me I'm doing so-so today! I kind of sneaked a brownie that I had left over from last night! UGH!!!! I should find a way to get rid of them fast! They're just sitting on my counter calling to me!!! "Tami come eat me...we're so bad for you but sooo good!!!" I'm about to get on my treadmill for a little workout! Yesterday I did 20 min on treadmill and 10 min on my bike and then I did a little bit of weight lifting too. I'm waiting for my dd to actually fall asleep before I get going on the treadmill! I hate getting started and then being called up to her room for some reason! Ds is playing quietly in the toy room! He is so addicted to cars and trains...he just lines em up all over my floor!! Tonight is his last night of t-ball for the summer! Yesterday was his last "gym" class at the Y...I don't know what we're going to do for over a month before school starts! I'm trying to find some sort of activity for dd to get into! I went to one of the dance schools and they have a mommy and me class but it's $120!!! It's only for 3 1/2 months, one day a week, for a 1/2 hour! I think that's ridiculous! I guess I'll wait for the new fall Y schedule to come out and see if there is anything for her!

Well, I'm off to make sure Emma is asleep!!! Have a great day everybody!

Tami

spryng 08-05-2003 04:05 PM

Tami don't feel bad about that brownie. If you deprive yourself of everything you love you'll never stick to any plan. And just one isn't going to set you back any especially since you'll probably work it off during your exercise anyway. :) And thanks for the website, I'll be sure to check it out.
Karen thanks for the info. There is a MOPS group right here in my town!! But it's at a local church and that can be a problem. Does yours meet at a church too?
Well I found the best recipe for fish filets!! As soon as DH gets home tonight I'm off to the store to buy the ingrediants. It has salsa, crushed corn chips, and shredded cheese on it and then when it's done you top it off with avocado and sour cream. I'm adjusting the recipe to be low cal as much as I can. But even at the normal one it only has 330 cals per serving! I am psyked to try it!!
Well, I guess I've been on the computer long enough (all the kiddos are napping) I need to get some housework done too. :) Talk to you all later! And I'll let you know how dinner goes!
