  • I found this nifty little gadget that evaluates how well you know what you really look like.

    It shows you some images of body sizes and you choose the one that you think most closely resembles yours. You enter your measurements and some other info and it calculates how accurate your perception is.

    There is no real science here and no guarantee of any kind of accuracy. But it is interesting and fun.

    (FYI. It asks for your location and assumes you're in the UK. If you're not just make something up. I don't think it really matters.)

    My evaluation was off by 17 1/2%. I think I look about 30 pounds heavier than what I really weigh! Woa.

    I totally believe that, though. Just the other day I was telling a woman at work that I was sorting through some too-big clothes to get rid of and she asked if she could go through them before I donated them to Goodwill. I was kinna shocked that she thought they would fit her because I was sure she was smaller than me. But I asked what sizes she wanted and it turns out that the too-big clothes would fit her.

    The gadget also determines your body type based on your measurements. My body type is a "perfect strawberry" (aka inverted triangle) which is exactly the result I expected.

  • Fun! I guessed exactly right.
  • I only guessed 5% larger than my size! but I think it's inaccurate. My measurements and appearance look smaller than they are, because I carry a lot of fat in my back and shoulders. I can wear a much smaller size than many women at the same weight and height because I have a favorable fat distribution, but the model I chose reflected my actual size and not my visual appearance, I'd say.

    Maybe it's my hangup, but I get annoyed at people thinking I'm smaller than I am. I just carry fat well

    It also told me I'm an hourglass but I know that's incorrect - my measurements are symmetrical, yes, but my fat piles on in apple regions and the slimmer I get the boxier my figure becomes. I'm only an hourglass by bare ratios, not be appearance, dressing tendency, weight gain patterns, or anything else. I'm just not a particularly strong apple, either.
  • I thought I was 13.5% bigger than I actually am, but I'm not surprised by this. I'm really pleased actually that I wasn't more off, I think my confidence and perception of myself must be improving Thanks for sharing!

  • I am 5% smaller..that was a neat little tool. I start to get frustrated with myself because I am stuck and have flab and not where I want to be, yet people tell me I look great and I don't feel it as much yet. I have more to lose. And sometimes I just feel yucky. I should come back to this site when I feel that way!
  • I suspect that a lot of apples would get hourglass based on the measurements this gadgets uses to determine body shape. Your waist may be smaller than your bust and hips but that doesn't mean you're an hourglass.

    I'm surprised how many of you were accurate or very close. Not much body dysmorphia going on here! Probably a lot of factors at play in that - how much you've lost, how recently you lost weight, how long you were overweight, etc.
  • I am 10% smaller than I thought. I guess I am just a little too hard on myself in terms of my perceptions.
  • I am 25% smaller than I think I am, holy cow! I picked woman #6 when in fact I'm supposed to be more like woman #1

  • I'm 22.5% smaller than I thought I was. Many women don't realize that we suffer from body dysmorphia but we do! Anyone who looks in the mirror daily and says something negative about what they see eventually develops some level of body dysmorphia. I've been working so hard to develop a better self image but according to this I'm still way off lol.
  • I'm 13% smaller than I think I am! That's pretty cool. And I'm a pear shape apparently, I've always thought I was a bit more hourglass but whatever, still fun!
  • I can't comment on this without sounding like I'm humblebragging, but this wasn't accurate for me and I don't think would be for muscular body types
