Default First time having to lose weight, any advice? :?:

Soooo here I am at 160 lbs. I've never had to lose weight i've usually stayed around 130 - 135lbs. Even after each child (I have two) I slimmed down to my regular size. My youngest is now 6. This past year I have gained 30 lbs and have no idea where its coming from! I drink maybe a soda a day if I can stomach it. I work as a customer service rep at a desk all day so I know that doesn't help. So i've made a plan and I need to stick to it.

I've started walking every day. I also do 50-100 crunches/sit ups/push ups, planking and a few other things. Before I started it, it seemed so hard to find time to work out, I work an hour away an 8-5 job and it seems like there is not enough time in the day to do anything. By the time I get home I have to make supper and get kids ready for bed, do some cleaning and by the time thats over its 9pm and I'm ready for bed! I want to exercise, but I just don't have the energy when its all said and done....... Now that WAS my mentality. Once I actually started doing it, I realized it doesn't take up as much time as I thought. I take an hour right after supper to walk and do my exercise and then I go on with the rest of my night.

I've decided to start the Atkins diet along with the exercising. Does anyone have any tips on the diet or any exercise moves that are really effective? I'd love to hear anything!!!

Thanks

Welcome.

Diet is more important than exercise when it comes to weight loss. (That's not to say that all the exercise you've incorporated isn't great!) But a common saying is that weight loss is 80% diet, 20% exercise.

To lose weight, you need a caloric deficit. There are lots of ways to achieve a moderate caloric restriction in your diet - Atkins is one way, and there's a sub-forum here for low-carb that you might find helpful. Good luck!

I'm a huge fan of exercise and calorie counting. IMO exercise is equally important to get down to a weight as low as 130-135. Jogging has been the best fat burner for myself (and many others here) along with calorie counting.

Good luck.
