  • I am up a pound today to 165.6lbs. I hope the climb stops here.

    Did squats today for the first time at the gym. I normally do not do legs because of my running, but I am going to try to change that.

    I had intended to eat a snack to supplement that light breakfast, but never had a chance. Therefore, I was starving by lunch and decided to go to Subway as my leftovers wouldn't have been enough.
  • it was a busy night last night with meetings and then family in town passing through....I got up at 5:30 a.m. to take her to the ferry heading home and then picked up DH's brother from his work at the mines...his brother has quit his job and is heading home to the village to work there and be closer to their mom....everyone wants us to move home too....but I REALLY am hesitant to give up everything we've worked for here and move once again....I mean, we both have super good, stable jobs here....I've been at my job for 10 years now and DH for at least 5...we bought our house, we each own our cars, the kids have roots in their schools and friends here....*sigh* it's a lot of thinking to do

  • I'm bummed today. Didn't work out. Felt crappy. I was worried about work and didn't sleep well, and yesterday I ate too much at dinner. Today I ate too much chocolate when I didn't need to. I was also up to 148 today again. (I'm sure this had something to do with my mood....) Then I think, it's all water, I'm not losing anything, this is awful, what's the point, etc. etc. I also had the disappointment of seeing pictures of myself (tried on a bridesmaid's dress and it looks fine but I just feel so saaad about my body and my weight and how did it get this bad??). It's funny the tricks your mind plays, I feel like when I look in the mirror I don't look that different, but when I see pictures there is a BIG difference, I can really tell I've gained a lot of weight.

    But I didn't binge, not really. I made some poor choices, I didn't make a huge effort to get a workout in (I went back and forth but I kind of thought, in the end, that a rest day might be good before the cross country ski race tomorrow, but I may have just been convincing myself). It could have been worse, I suppose. But it could have also been much better.

    I just ate various things today - grazing. This happens when I stray from my plan and then try not to eat. So basically: plain/greek yogurt with berries and nuts (x3), baby carrots and hummus, 2/3 of a dark chocolate bar, 2 plums, one apple.

    Tomorrow will be better. I'll eat real meals. I'll exercise, and I'll be outside. I hope I feel better.
  • Guys---okay, so I haven't been checking in or taking this whole diet thing seriously lately! Some days I do well, other days...yesterday, for instance! I had a 1/3 pound cheeseburger with slaw and chili, and then later I had a graham cracker with peanut butter and chocolate chips!

    Today I've been good, except I did a bit of drinking. I threw back a couple whiskey sours...so good, but extra calories! Besides that, I had a bunch of chips at around 11, like 2-3 servings, subway around 3 (6 inch,ham/cheese but no mayo or oil), and for dinner i had a slice of sour dough bread with olive oil and four chicken strips. I am still kind of hungry, though. Dinner was very good considering its simplicity. I marinated the chicken in about 3 tbsp of teriyaki sauce and water for a couple of hours before cooking and it was really good!

    I did buy a workout DVD today for when my internet is being terrible, which is nearly all day every day.
  • I'm sitting outside about to have a porkchop, cheddar mashed potatoes, and broccoli at a little restaurant and I get to watch horses go by every now and then...I love my neighborhood . We rode our bikes for 40 minutes first and stopped to eat real quick...tried to upload pic but it failed ;(

    Marniadec I would increase my calories. It is so hard to maintain your focus when you eat lower calories.

    Ian I'm wondering if the gain is from sodium? Do you could swap your breakfast/lunch? Maybe you could focus your breakfast on poached fresh seafood, like salmon. It only takes a few minutes to poach the seafood. Probably close to the same amount of time to cook the oats. You could easily microwave your oats (breakfast foods) in your office at work.

    I was kinda expecting a small gain because of the turnip greens from yesterday. That meal was higher in sodium.

  • I met a man last week who has lost forty pounds over a period of four years. That's right, he has lost ten pounds a year, and that was OK with him. He figures, if he can lose weight sloooowwwwly over a period of years just by making permanent lifestyle changes, then those changes will stick better.

    I agree with that philosophy but I am personally too impatient to wait that long. On the other hand, it really is the best way. Any progress toward health is still progress, whether the scale shows it or not. Eating healthy and trying to be more active is ALWAYS worth it.

    I had a nice loss this morning. 141.8! I had to step off the scale, reboot it, and step back on just to be sure. I haven't really been exercising excessively or changed my diet much at all. I did add a new supplement, an improved iron supplement called "Blood builder" because the plasma donation center told me my iron was almost too low to donate. Which I knew, I have always been chronically anemic even though I eat well and take various supplements, including iron and sublingual B12. Maybe the more absorbable iron helped improve my metabolism. As I get closer to goal, mini-whooshes are few and far between.
  • Well, my weight is back up to 163! Oh well. I suppose I expected some gain because of the way I've been eating. Diana, wow, you sure do work out a lot! I got Mike Chang's Six Pack Shortcuts. It's too hard for me, but I guess it's doable by doing modified push ups and stuff. Even the warm up had push ups! ARGH!

    I want to start revving up my fitness efforts. Thus far, I've put in a meager effort inconsistently. I'm not going to go crazy, but I need to make a solid plan that is consistent so that I have somewhere to make improvement from. Improvement in physical activities, for me, is extremely motivating when it's obvious. However, if I am not improving performance, I don't feel excited at all about exercise. I feel like it's a waste of time unless I have a specific and measurable goals to achieve.

    I've messed up a few times and shirked off my responsibilities for too long. It's catching up to me--I've got to change and take responsibility for myself and stop messing around and wasting time.

    The GYBB workouts are only 10 minutes each. But, they are pretty intense. Yesterday's workouts totaled 65 minutes, so that's not too bad.
