PCOS limbo

Hi everyone,

Like many others, I've hit a weight loss plateau. :(

I'm 22 in three months time and weigh about 80kg/176lbs. Back in high school, I used to weigh 110kg/242lbs and managed to get down to 70kg/154lbs three years ago. But these past two years have been very stressful and I'm now stuck on 80kg/176lbs, which won't budge. I've had PCOS since I was 16 and decided to take action again three months ago. I usually cut out most carbs and exercise every day for 40-50 minutes a day and still haven't seen much of a difference.

Coming from an Asian family, I suffered a lot of humiliation and heart ache whenever I'd go back overseas to see family. Also, my older sister is half my size, we get along great but shopping together is a horrible experience.

I really want to gain some self confidence and feel good about my body. I'm aiming to lose 15kg/33lbs. Also, I'm already taking Metformin (five months now). Any advice would be fantastic, even encouraging words will lift my spirits up.

Thanks everyone! Appreciate it.
Lola

As a fellow cyster, I would recommend that you count your calories in addition to your carbs with a program like My Fitness Pal (there are others, but since I use MFP, I don't know much about them.) Once you have all the data, you might get a better picture of what's going on. Since you're already on Metformin and aware of your carbs, the regular diet advice applies: drink plenty of water, eat within your calories/macros, etc.

You absolutely can lose with PCOS - sometimes we just have to stick it out longer before we see results. If you do the above and don't see results, you can take all the data to your doc and see what else they might be able to do (like adjust the met dose.)

PS: We also have a PCOS board on here you can check in on. Several of those ladies are on Metformin and they might have some good tips for you.

Just wanted to chime in as a fellow 3fcer coming from an Asian family - they REALLY stick it to ya about the size right?!
Especially the grannies!
The social repercussion of being large, even among "western" standards is so awful. It is painful, but on the plus side, any comments from anyone else feel like nothing to me

Hey!

Thanks for that information. To see a doctor is one of my first goals for 2014. :) I will also check out the PCOS section too.

Oh yeah, it's really hard. I first experienced it when I was 12. It's not something you put young kids through. I used to be scared going to Asia or hanging out with Asian people, but I'm now a stronger woman and I'm doing it for myself.
