I sometimes have a big salad, or bring a bunch of fruit with me to work, some days I just need more food. I used to sometimes steam a head of broccoli and eat it or eat a can of green beans, this is when I started out, before my stomach got used to eating smaller amounts, which is what I think you're asking about.
Usually something with protein like a hard boiled egg or a chunk of cheese will hold me over longer.
The important thing is to try different things and find what works for you, there will be times that don't go exactly as planned, learn from those times and keep at, you will be successful.
For me, the more protein I eat, the less hungry I am throughout the day. Lots of lean meats, eggs, cheese, greek yogurt, etc. I also enjoy protein shakes/bars occasionally.
Another thing I've tried to do recently is face my fear of being hungry. It was weird to realize that I honestly FEARED hunger. This may not apply to you, but once I forced myself to just accept that I"m going to be hungry occasionally and it's NOT going to kill me, I had a much better mindset in general.
If it's the first week, I'd suggest that you take it slow. Don't decrease your calories too much. Eat often, even if it's just a piece of fruit and drink plenty of water.
And it's true that you can lose weight on junk food. When I first started, that was all I ate. Of course, I weighed 253 then. But then, yesterday, I ate a cheeseburger and fries and today I lost a pound. I do eat much better now than I did back then but I still eat junk food. Nothing like McDonalds, though.
I agree with adjusting until you find something that's a bit more comfortable for you. I ended up starting eating more earlier in the day because the more I "saved up" the more I wanted to eat or even binge. You will get through this transition period!

That's exactly how my mind works! I also don't want to spend the day looking forward to a future meal, which would take my focus away from the present. So, I have a fairly large breakfast and lunch and relatively small dinner. It doesn't tame the food monster completely, but works better for me than anything else.
One way to deal with hunger is to find smart ways to eliminate it. Too often, we don't eatenoughprotwinduring theday, when we need it, instead, saving it for dinner. I, personally, find it tough to get protein at breakfast.
I have turned to protein shakes (can I mention my brand? EAS 100, 100 calories and mixing easily with soy or coconut milk, or orange or chocolate diet soda (don't laugh)).
I find by having a slow steady stream of protein during they day, my blood sugar stays steady and I don't actually feel hungry.
After all, if you're uncomfortable, how will you ever keep it up?
I'm starting to enjoy the hunger a little more. I see it as a reminder that I'm losing weight.
MedChick87- I used to fear hunger too! I would over eat and still fear future hunger.
I've been using "Mynetdiary" and it's the best diet tool I've ever used. It really helps with keeping me on track. It gives you reports on what you're doing well and not so well. Looks like I have to work on my water intake (I forget to drink) and the amount of sodium I eat (yesterday I was at close to 4000mg!!).
4 pounds lost in 5 days! yay!

Have you looked into the idea of "volumetrics?" Most of us really do it without thinking anyway, but the idea is to bulk up your meals with non-starchy vegetables, so you end up with pretty big servings for very little calories.
