Dreaded week two

In The Biggest Loser, week two is notorious for greatly diminished weight loss rates which go back up in week three. I am three days into week two and flabbergasted by how little I eat (not particularly hungry) and how slow the scale moves.

Has this phenomenon happened to you?

Do you also realize that the biggest loser weeks are really 14 days? 1-2 lbs/week loss is considered normal and safe. Large weight loss in the beginning is mostly due to water weight loss.

Thanks for your answer, Nelie.

I thought some of the weeks on the Biggest Loser were fourteen days (two weeks home), but not most.

I am not expecting Biggest Loser weight losses. I do not exercise has much as them and I am much smaller too. I was just curious to know if the body's chemistry is somewhat different in the second week. If it tries to hold on for a while, instead of flushing.

How much you have to lose plays part too so if you lose .5 lb, that'd be normal for your weight.

The biggest loser folks are have around 100 lbs or more to lose, it comes off quicker in the beginning at those numbers. Hang in there!

Nelie - I have read that 1 % body weight losses per week are safe, so 1.5 lbs is what I am aiming for. In fact, I am aiming a little higher. Since I am doing a bootcamp at the moment and I do not have to work until August 15th, I'd love to weigh around 145 lbs then. If I do not achieve this goal and feel fitter and stronger, so be it. I have learned on this site and elsewhere that perseverence is key.

Bear in mind that I have been terribly inactive over the last year. I have not been exercising and spent an awful amount of time anchored in my bed, sofa or chair, so this is a flabby 150 lbs, not a toned one.

lbsgobyebye - I definitely feel my muscles more.

I suffer from interstitial cystitis (not in crisis at the moment though) and IBS and I have not figured out what is going on in my abdominal region. It feels hard and crampy. I do not know if it is from hunger, inflammation, gas, not breathing properly, bad posture or all the above. I am so looking forward an improvement, which will come in time...

Hang in there and let me know if things speed up for you.

lbsgobyebye -

The scale is not moving, but I lost .5 inches on my bust and hips in the last three days. You should totally take your measurements, lbsgobyebye.

Since the first week is mainly water weight loss and not fat, its normal that the second week be slower because you are losing fat (and muscle if you don't do strength training).
