Why don't see a difference ?

  • I am 23, student.
I lost 10 lb, from 150 to 140lb, but surprisingly I don't see any change in my body, same clothes Fit me perfect and no one has even noticed this.
    Feeling depressed about it.
Is 10lb loss not significant enough?
  • Here's how I think about this: Imagine that you lost like 1/16th of an inch, evenly all over your body. Even though you lost 10lbs, the 1/16th of an inch wouldn't really be visible. If you lost the whole 10 lbs from the front of your stomach, then you could see it. Unfortunately, that's not usually how we lose weight.

I always want to see my weight loss, too. Just keep up what you are doing and you will see yourself getting smaller.
  • Ten pounds is VERY significant & congratulations.

I feel that way sometimes, waiting for someone to appreciate or support my weight loss or maintenance efforts. I've learned over doing it a long time that I have to just do it for myself & be my own supporter as others are doing their own journey & rightfully immersed in their own thing. They cannot help me but I can help them & help myself.

As to clothes I now fit into the ones I want to fit into & that is awesome to me.
  • Unfortunately, we cannot pick where we lose weight. 10 pounds is something to be proud of, but lets say you lost 10 pounds, 1 from your arms, 1 in your stomach, etc etc. Nobody is going to notice. I've lost 16 pounds total this time around and I have yet to really see a change. People comment on it but I still feel the same even though the scale is telling me differently. We all lose weight differently, but don't give up! You're doing great.

    Thanks.
Listening to someone who feels the same as i do makes me feel confident.
  • Often much of your initial weight loss is simply water loss, as opposed to fat loss...not all, of course, but of your 10lb loss, it's entirely possible that 3-6 lbs was simply water loss (depending on how quickly you have lost weight). You'll likely notice a much bigger difference when you lose your second 10 lbs than with your first 10 lbs.
  • That's so sad and here I was being happy losing weight so fast.
  • Don't let it get you down! Yeah, some of it's probably water, but you're on the right track. This is your jumping-off point for continued weight loss!
And other posters are right - I did notice my second 10 lbs more than my first 10 lbs. You still have to make yourself notice it - the mirror can be deceiving. I try to smile at myself every time I look in a mirror, it helps me feel more confident in myself and that I'm actually making a change.
  • I started way heavier, but the difference in the first 20 was not very obvious. Between 20 and 30 was a shocking difference, though. And actually, it was like one day I lost that pound that made all the difference and it became very obvious. Since you're starting off so much smaller, I doubt it would take even 20 to get to a very noticeable difference. You might find that you wake up 12 or 13 or 14 pounds down one day and feel very different.
  • Can I suggest taking photos during your weight loss? I have lost over 40 lbs now, and I still struggle to see the difference even now. I have noticed, however, that it is really clear when I look at a photo from before I lost the weight and a photo now! It's a way of looking at your body with fresh eyes and it might help you to see the changes a bit more easily.

Congratulations on losing 10 lbs already though, that is a fantastic achievement and even though it might not seem apparent to you, it is a great thing that you have done for your health. Way to go!
