Inches without the pounds

I have been losing a lot of inches recently as evidenced by my belt (I'm on my second) which looks like it will soon become redundant (and I will need a third). But the scale has not moved as much. It's like my body is "catching up" with my weight loss.

Anyone else had inches without the pounds?

It seems very strange.

YES!!! Last month I think I lost maybe three pounds total after a steady loss of about two lbs. per week since January. But, while nothing was happening on the scale, my clothes were getting looser. That fact was what kept me going. I think the body does have to "recalibrate" somehow, holding onto water while losing fat. I understand completely how some people could totally give up if they go by the scale alone. It can be extremely frustrating if the scale is your only measure of success.

Congrats on the new belt!

My 7.5 inches lost has definitely been a better motivator than the 5 lbs. I've lost in the last 4 weeks. I did an interesting calculation of how much weight I gained on average each year and it was 6.7 lbs per year for 6 years, so if I can just focus on losing 5 lbs. each month that is really great. While my weight crept up slowly, I want the loss to come off faster. I'll settle for the inches melting off though. It's a good thing.

Yup. For sure. I just started seriously exercising (kettlebell workouts 4x/week + treadmill jogs) over the past month. My pounds lost haven't been much at all, BUT:

Date | Bust (in.) | Waist (in.) | Hips (in.)
03/17/2013 | 38.25 | 33.5 | 42.25
03/20/2013 | 37.8 | 32.5 | 41
03/25/2013 | 37.6 | 32.5 | 40
04/02/2013 | 37.25 | 32 | 40

I'm sure that your inches were more dramatic, but if you look at that, it was a period of two weeks. Goes to show that the scale isn't as informative.

This is why I don't weigh myself. Ever.

My clothes tell the tale, and that is enough for me.

I'll find out my weight when I go to the doctor in August.

LOL! Of course, keep in mind that I'm not on a diet either. Nor do I care if I lose another pound - although I am (I'm guessing now) about 20 lbs overweight. So I have no reason to weigh myself.

Hey Ian, have you ever read THIS article? It's one of my faves.

To answer your question though, yes I have!

PreciousMissy 04-03-2013 11:01 AM

Oh yeah! The way my clothes are hanging it feels like I've lost 20lb, but the scale says 10. go figure.

Thanks LockItUp. Great article.

"Finally, many have reported whooshes following an evening which included alcohol." Amen to that.

And that's exactly why I feel it is my duty to have some alcohol, my whoosh would be very sad if I didn't .

I don't measure inches as I am too OCD to try and get the same exact spot and I'd get all bent out of shape if I gained inches by measuring wrong. :)

But...my clothes have been fitting so much better lately and I keep thinking it's maybe vanity sizing but....now that I think about it, maybe it's my own appearance getting better!! The scale is giving me the big eff-you lately but my clothes are better fitting.
