Plateau Question
Wondering when you hit a plateau and you don't do anything different, will you eventually start losing weight again?
Thanks, carl365 |
A true plateau means you're eating maintinence calories and therefore if nothing changes, your weight will remain the same.
Most people say Plateau but they really mean stall. Their weight loss has stalled because they're retaining water for one reason or another. Either you're in a caloric deficit or you're not. If you are, you're losing fat, regardless of what the scale says. |
Exactly what JohnP said :]
Look at what you're eating, make sure you're not sort of snacking and not recording all of your calories (it happens sometimes :p) Also, I'd recommend taking measurements. Sometimes the scale doesn't move but I've lost an inch or two somewhere. |
Thanks for the replies. Yes stall sounds better too, that's what it is. The first couple weeks of my diet the scale didn't move much either. Finally found out I was taking in way too much salt. I'd say probably at least 4000 mg a day, perhaps a lot more. When I cut the salt out, I dropped 4 pounds suddenly and have been dropping steadily until last week.
According to calculators, my maintenance should be about 2500 calories a day so I would think 1500 calories daily would be a good deficit. According to the tape, it continually shows small decreases even in my stall. Do you suppose this scale weight stall is from still retaining water, even with the very low salt intake? carl365 |
