help! how do i lose pounds instead of inches?

  • there are two photos here one the day i decided to start my diet and one taken a few month back that i am smaller then now but the only problem is why am i 2 sizes smaller but still weigh the same? im not loosing but im still shrinking. also id really like the scale to show that ive lost and its bugging me. how do i lose pounds instead of inches?

  • In my opinion, it is better to lose the inches instead of the weight. I'm sure you have seen someone who has stayed the same size (like a size 4) and gained 10 lbs because of muscle mass. If you are doing any sort of muscle training, you are building the muscle and replacing fat. Since muscle is denser than fat, you are replacing 1 lb of fat with 1 lb of muscle, thus weighing the same and losing inches. There will come a point where your metabolism will speed up to overtake the fat (2lb fat, 1 lb muscle) and you will start losing weight. Be proud that you have lost 2 sizes! It does not have to be about the scale, the weight will come off over time
  • First off, hello and welcome to the site since I see it is your first post/thread!

Do you lift weights and/or do any strength/body weight training? It sounds like you have had fat loss as opposed to weight loss which to me is better because that means you'd have more muscles than fat. You may or may not have gained muscle but you probably are likely keeping whatever muscle you have and ridding the fat if you are still the same weight yet 2 sizes smaller? I'm actually jealous!

Also, when you say "diet", what is that for you if you don't mind my asking? Like in terms of calories, etc.

Love the polka dot shirt, BTW!
  • thank you, i literally thought that i was going to weigh the same forever and just get smaller
  • I eat between 1200-1500 calories daily because its enough to satisfy me. I eat mostly salads and sandwiches because the consist of most food groups and also fruit and veggies. i drink about a gallon of liquid daily water or tea. i exercise between 5-7 days a week, exercising 30 minutes to 2 hrs&30 mins daily. my exercise routines are using broken up between 1-3 times a day. mostly bicycling, walking, dancing, and toning exercises. i either exercise by myself or with a friend. i find its easier to workout with someone else because you stick too it more.
oh and thank you but the shirt doesn't fit me anymore
  • The stats under your name reflect you've lost over 30 pounds! Is that not weight you've lost during the loss of these 2 sizes?
  • According to your stats, you have lost 30 pounds! If you are losing size and building muscle, that 30 pounds may reflect both the loss of fat & muscle growth. You are doing great. Congratulations.
  • The fastest way to lose weight, is to cut off a body part. Chop off a leg and BINGO you've lost a ton of weight.

Sounds silly? So does the idea that you're sad when you're down two sizes and the scale doesn't reflect it. What if you didn't own a scale? Would you still be dissapointed?

Bottom line is that if you're shrinking, you're losing fat. This is what you want. The scale not moving could mean a large number of things but ... who cares?

Obviously what you're doing is working and the scale will reflect this, sooner or later.
  • I have to agree with John on this one. Maybe I'm the nutty one here, but to me the original post seems incredibly backward.

As someone that hasn't lost any sizes, I agree! I can name off a few weight loss programs I have that swear that you can lose 2 sizes in a weekend/2 weeks/10 workouts/etc.

Why do you feel you need to hit a certain weight? Is it the BMI? Did you know professional athletes that have a ton of muscle are in "obese" categories in the BMI scale? These are very fit people that are considered obese! Either way, keep doing what you are doing! It's obviously working!
  • Trade me? I've lost 24 pounds and only one pant size. I would kill to lose more inches instead of more pounds.
