To post-it or not to post-it

I found some motivational quotes that I loved, wrote them on post-its and stuck them around the house last night. All are positive and inspirational (except "to get the butt you want you have to get off the one you have" cause I thought it was funny. Not really negative to me). Is this cheesy? Cliche? I decided all positive because I am on a journey to love myself and my body. I've had enough negative (and actually just cut out some friends because of this) and I think having these will help. My kids saw what I was doing and made some for me too. My 7 year old made one that says "don't give up mommy! You can do it!". How sweet is that?!

amandie 03-11-2013 02:03 PM

I love it! I actually do that with a huge dry eraseboard I have. Mine says "Get that *** moving!", "You look good in clothes right now, but don't you wanna look better naked?" (Lol), that kinda stuff. Thanks for reminding me because I have been putting off hanging up that dry erase board in my room. I also hang up old smaller clothes or new clothes that are a size down for visual motivation.

Not cheesy at all!!!

That is SO sweet!

Who cares what other people would think about your post-its!? This is your journey. Do what you need to do!

melsweetie84 03-11-2013 02:15 PM

^ YES!!! :) If it works for you, then do it!

I love that idea, by the way!

SweetAsCanBe 03-11-2013 02:23 PM

Yay! I'm not crazy! Lol

I think surrounding myself with positive thoughts will really help keep on track. Although, I may end up with a newly decorated house with all these post-its :D

I have a 3x5 index card (a Beck response card) that I made in front of my computer monitor at home. It says, 7 times, in different fonts and different colors, "It's easier to stay on plan than get back on plan."

I have my "Advantages Response Card" which lists the reasons I want to lose weight on my dresser, and I read it and think about each reason every morning when I put my rings on.

So, either you're not crazy--or we both are.

I'd be interested in seeing some of your inspirational quotes, if you wouldn't mind sharing them.

(I wouldn't mind borrowing your 7 year old, either--s/he sounds adorable.) My kids are a bit older (17 and 20) but they've been really supportive--the 17 year old at home, and the 20 year old from a distance.

I love this. Can I steal this, please?? I need all the motivation I can get! :)

I have posted on my computer screen the quote from Anais Nin. "And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”

SweetAsCanBe 03-11-2013 02:52 PM

I love the reasons idea! I think I will steal that idea and do some of my own. I know bad days are inevitable, but at least I will have my reasons for doing what I'm doing laid out in front of me (which goes great with one of my quotes!) My 7 year old is very much a sweetheart. All of my kids are, but she definitely has a nurturing, loving, positive personality.

I absolutely don't mind sharing! If they help someone else then that is wonderful!

My favorite "Don't give up on your dream just because of the time it takes to achieve it. The time will pass anyway." It was very powerful for me and I use it daily in many aspects of my life.

~No matter how slow you go, you are still lapping everybody on the couch.

~I may not be there yet, but I'm closer than I was yesterday.

~Take pride in how far you have come. Have faith in how far you will go.

~When you feel like quitting, think about why you started.

~always remember: you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, smarter than you think.

~I am in control of how I feel. Today I choose happiness.

These are just a few. Then I made some with just words like smile, persevere, believe, etc.

And 1 I will be making extra copies that says "Love yourself". I did a big heart in place of the O. I'm just oh so clever haha.

Thank you. I've added some of these to my ongoing "health scripts" project.

Sure--I stole it in the first place, after all! :carrot:

It really helps me!

I have one I read all the time, "The greatest pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do.".

I don't think anyone thought I could lose this weight (myself included some days).

HungryHungryHippo 03-11-2013 06:20 PM

Love it!!
In fact, I've got a Post-It on my desk with something I got from 3FC the other night: If you want it, you'll find a way. If you don't, you'll find an excuse!

Some others:
If you do not change direction, you may end up where you are headed.

Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.

Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.

Love this too! I have a little streak of rebellion when someone says I can't do something. But when you do it's like "BOOM!! Told ya I could!!"

These are all great! Time to get the post-its out. The last one is great for me because sometimes I want to get everything done right now or I feel I failed. Great way to look at it!

ChickieChicks 03-11-2013 07:15 PM

I lined the inside come re of my food diary with post-it's that had things meaningful to me. :)

NiagaraGrl 03-12-2013 10:08 AM

I used to do this to study for chemistry tests. Put post it's everywhere with what i needed to know on the front, and the answer on the back. I failed that class . . . but not for lack of trying.
Some of my favourite motivational "slogans" are "I want to be a woman of integrity, dignity and grace." This just reminds me to be honest with myself. and I've used it in every aspect of my life for a long time. I like "one step at a time" or "one day at a time." I may pig out on a whole bag of my favourite chips at some point, but it's not gonna be today.

bargoo 03-12-2013 10:29 AM

My favorite and I stole it ffom another poster, dom't remenber who, sorry. I may have paraphrased it a little bit.

Being fat is hard
Losing weight is hard.
Maintaining is hard.
Choose your hard.
