Yup, my mom is the same. Mind you she doesn't really need to lose any weight but she doesn't eat very healthy either. Like Krampus said, whatcha gonna do?

Funny thing she said to me once (when I told her I was wanting to get back on track and start losing again after having gained a few lbs back)- "Oh yea, that (the gain) has to be because of all that DIET soda you're drinking." Huh, say what? You do realize diet soda has barely any calories and is not enough to make me gain. I was only drinking maybe 2-3 a day, not a whole 12 pack. I gained because I was drinking a lot more beer/alcohol and not really paying attention to what I was eating at the time. LoL.

Amandie - Diet soda has zero calories. BUT aspartame in diet soda does create an insulin response, which can cause you to store more fat. Also there are many studies that suggests this causes you to eat more. Google all of this if you don't believe me.

I don't think diet sodas are the reason you need to lose weight, and I do think your mom is wrong, but I do think you might be surprised by what the scale does if you stop drinking 3 a day. THAT SAID, we all need our treats and things that help us stay on plan - so if Diet Soda is a real treat and you are losing weight, then I would stick with "if it aint broke don't fix it".

Mandypandy- I believe you since that is the same thing I read a long time ago. Really, it all boils down to this- I stopped tracking points (WW) and started drinking a ton of beer/alcohol and fried foods/other crap I was eating at the time. Just found it a bit silly that she blamed it all on the diet soda, ya know? That's all. Thanks.

Her as she picks out half the veggies in a dish: "Oh, I like vegetables. Just not peppers, onions, spinach, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, cabbage, romaine lettuce, or cauliflower..."

^^ Love this

Also loving this thread, since I'm probably closer in age to all your mothers than I am to you...

As long as your Mom is being supportive of you, and it sounds like she is, that's all you can ask for. It's a lot more than many people get from their Moms. Hopefully my kids always feel supported, too. I know I try my best!
