those pesky plateaus

  • How often do most of you hit those plateaus where your body just seems to say nope gonna hang onto this fat a while longer
In the past when I was very successful taking weight off (prior to a break up then bad hip that required surgery and almost 2 years inactivity) they seemed to be further apart....like 20 or so lbs.
Now it seems like 5 lbs come off fairly consistantly and then I get stuck for about a week or two ....then bam it starts to slowly come off again and 5 - 7 lbs get stuck again. I dont mind slow and steady because it is still coming off and my eating is getting better.
I recently got a Fitbit and I am staying well with in the cal in range and beating almost all the "goals" daily for steps, stairs and miles walked....I chose the sorta hard plan where I shoot for a deficite of 750 cal a day.
I know plateaus happen but I liked it way better when they were further apart and after larger losses!!
  • Sounds like a very normal pattern of loss! I've seen many people around these forums have basically that same loss pattern. There are so many reason why it can happen that way. Could have to do with your cycle, or just the way your body loses fat -- you lose the fat but it doesn't reflect on the scale right away due to water retention.

You're doing great. Keep it up!
