How do you calculate percentage lost?

Meaning do you just use your starting weight - say 250 lbs and count it as 12.5 lbs for 5% and 25 lbs for 10% each time?

Or do you start at 250, lose 25 lbs and then calculate the next 10% as 22.5 lbs since that would be 10% of your weight at 225 lbs?

Or do you think that I need to start worrying more about just losing weight and less about playing with numbers?

LOL!!! Well, I suppose it depends on what you want to know. Do you want to know your TOTAL percentage lost from the beginning or are you trying to figure out like what another 10%-25% of where you currently are?

I personally love the numbers and calculations!

I love numbers and calculations, too!

I plan on calculating percentage lost from my initial weight. From a point of view of health, even 5-10% of your body weight can decrease various health risks. So, from that point of view, 250 - 10% to 225 gives a health benefit. Then 22.5 lbs from that gives another one.

I'm still going to count from my initial weight--numbers and mini-goals are fun to calculate. Now I just have to meet them!

Owch, you made my head hurt!

I just calculate total percentage lost, eg: I started at about 181 and have lost 36 pounds. 36/181= 19.8% lost.

I've been running calculations ever since I read this thread.

Some of the calculations made me happy. Like my total weight loss is 42% of my starting weight. But I found that to get to my goal I have about 10% of my current body weight to lose, ug that makes it seem daunting!

I always use total lost / starting weight

So if you started at 200 and lost 20, you'd be at .1 or 10%. Works for me because I want the "big" picture. ;)
