An NSV only a former big girl can understand....

  • I've been at this point awhile, but I just have to share this NSV as I'm sure many of you can relate.

I was at the doctor's office today, waiting my turn, and the last time I was there was a year ago. I was sitting in the waiting room with my legs crossed, one over the other at the knee. I was reading my book, which was on my lap. While looking down at my book, I just noticed that I wasn't using the entire surface of the chair anymore. There was plenty of room to spare on either side, an inch or two, or more depending on where I looked. It was one of those moments where I had to just stop and savor it.

Just a year ago, I used the entire surface of the chair with little or no room to spare. Two years ago, I would have felt the arms of the chair pressing on my side or legs. I may have just chosen the two-seater type of chair that looks like two chairs side by side with no arm in the middle instead. Two years ago, I would not have been able to cross my legs at the knee, but may have chosen to cross my legs at the ankle instead.

It's moments like this that really help to keep me focused. I never want to use the whole chair ever again.

And then the doc gave me a congrats and WTG when he saw how much weight I lost since the last visit.
  • HEY! That's pretty flippin' AWSOME!!!! It's those "little moments" wether it's a way smaller jean size or a chair-- those are actually the MOST rewarding moments!!! CONGRATS!! SO happy for ya!!!
  • That's awesome! I noticed that when I went to the doc's a few weeks ago It's an amazing feeling, right?

It's sort of cool to see how weight loss changes your life in tiny ways that no one would ever have expected. I'm no longer self conscious of my fingers in pictures anymore cuz they aren't so fat! lol.

    Anyway, congrats
  • Awesome! Way to go
  • Awesome moment!!!
  • Yay for you! I'm looking forward to being able to sit comfortably in my boss's Porsche, if he'll ever take me for a ride.
  • I know just how you feel. I remember the day I was sitting with my legs crossed and realized what I was doing. It was an amazing moment! It might have happened on other days where I didn't even notice, but being aware of these small changes is awesome. I also love not damming up the water in the tub anymore.

  • That's a great NSV. I had a similar situation in my car. I am scared of lightning, and I remember seeing a show that said you are safe as long as you are not touching the side of your car with your body. So when lightning came, I scrunched up and noticed I didn't have to scrunch because I wasn't crammed into the seat anymore!

    Congrats!

  • Yesssssss that happened to me when I realized how tiny I sit in a couch I used to fill quite well. Congrats honey!! Job well done!!!!
  • Awsone NSV, Twin!!! I totally get it!

I was at the Dr. with my DH yesterday. I noticed that they have some double sized chairs in the waiting room and a whole fleet of double sized wheel chairs! Holy Cow!!! Aren't we glad we don't need one of those? Like those wheel chairs were really wide.

I could sit in the normal sized chair, but not with my purse sitting next to me in the chair like I could when I was thin.
  • Very cool! I noticed the same thing when I flew last month!
  • love reading the other things that make people go "woa".
