"I'm full, let's eat more"??
So I just noshed on some lunch - a small grilled chicken pita (cucumber, tomato, romaine lettuce, mushrooms and I asked for broccoli too) from extreme pita and I discovered today they'll substitute Tzatziki sauce for chipoltle chickpea hummus, yay good fats and filling proteins! (~280cal), I didn't eat all of the pita, too much starchy-ness
Anyway I am FULL, I can feel in my throat that I've eaten a lot if that makes sense. I find that when I'm at this point of full, my body kind of wants to eat more...and almost always something sweet. Something in my subconscious tells me I will feel less full if I eat more? What is this craziness? It's a common feeling I get and I've only started to think about what it means? Maybe someone can give me some insight? |
Wanting dessert after a meal has been explained "scientifically" (some more than others) in 45739574534895734 studies. As for wanting to eat more, that happens to me too! I realize I've had enough and am no longer hungry, but I get an almost instant compulsion to keep eating. I find being very full physically unpleasant, but still find myself there more than I'd care to.

Sometimes I get this to but I just chalk it up to my "former fat girl" not being pleased unless I am bursting at the seams with food.
I am not sure why it happens sometimes, maybe its just an old die hard habit that is trying to claw its ugly head to the surface. I think that is my problem, I used to stuff myself within an inch of my life even though it was uncomfortable. |
well I am WELL known to have a yogurt after a meal--and add 2 TBS. of LITE Cool-whip. MANY yogurts have too many calories and sugar though! There is a brand you can find at any KROGER grocery store called "CARBmaster" 60 calories and only three carbs!! the strawberry pomegranite is SUPER sweet and the bannana creme pie is amazing!!! They have SO many choices--SOME are GREAT!!! Or I may have sugar free JELLO w/cool whip....JUST to get a sweet taste everyday HELPS ME A LOT!!!!
Getting USED to NEVER continually snacking is a process--Try snacking on pickles or veggies (celery, carrots, coliflower, broccoli)with a fat free or low fat dressing, a few olives, or a small plate of all of the above... I eat a LOT of dill pickles when I just HAVE to be gnawing on SOMETHING--better that grabbing for a bag of chips! |
For me, if I've had a sodium-heavy meal I get the sweet munchies right afterwards even if I'm full. Bananas are a big love of mine for dessert to get the sweet without so much of the dessert overload.
Or, drink the dessert craving. A mug of fat/sugar free hot cocoa is a pretty good way to relax after a meal, too. :) |
Wanting dessert after a meal has been scientifically explained? I'm going to have to look that up!
I tend to do this too, and always felt it was due to my starving student mentality, which is even worse when the food available to me is free. I tend to want to eat and eat until I'm stuffed and then eat more. If it's really good, it's worse. I've wondered if my off switch is broken for many years. |
i feel like that often...i've found that chewing on some gum helps me...it's like if i keep chewing long enough, my brain finally realizes that , yes, my stomach really IS full and then i actually start FEELING fuller and then i dont want to eat anymore...it's like my body just wants to keep chewing something, as opposed to actually continuing to feed it...if that makes sense(?)
|
Capping off a meal with a taste of something sweet, even if it's as simple as a single strawberry, causes a chemical release (going from hazy memory here) that signals the brain that feeding is complete. I've noticed the effect in myself - much less likely to go back into the kitchen after dinner "on the prowl". Seems to only work at the end of a meal, though - not so much for snacks, or as an attempt to undereat.

I have the same feeling after my lunch. What I normally do is take a mint tea and the feeling subsides. I feel as it makes my digestion easier too.
|
This happens to me all the time!!! I always say it's not me who wants it...just my sweet tooth (who apparently is starving and didn't get a single bite of the meal I just ate!). Usually I'll wait 5-10 minutes and if I still have the craving I'll have a few bites of fruit or chew on some gum.
