I wanted to ask a question about belly fat. I was thin most of my life until I had 2 children(18 and 20) and developed fibromyalgia 2 years ago. I used to weight 110-130, then I went all the way up to 172. I have lost a total of 21 pounds so far. My stomach has been fat for a long time. Can someone please tell me if I lose weight with the "flab" stomach go away? It's slowly going down, but I want to know if being overweight by 40 pounds or so cause that skin flap if you know what I mean lol. Thanks.
It does for some and doesn't for others. Unfortunately it's one of those things that no one will be able to answer for you, you will just have to wait and see. Not much help, I know.
It will be different for everyone. I am EXTREMELY lucky to have no loose skin after losing 65lb. I could do with toning up a bit but I have no skin flap or anything. It's just a bit soft
I had two kids within 2 years and have lost over 40 pounds. I anticipated more loose skin in the tummy area and while I have some, it's no where near what I thought it would be and it is improving with time.
I think it would be beneficial to get some tummy exercises in, if you haven't already.. also, Cocoa body butter should help firm up the skin - or try eating foods with high contents of silicon (it helps firm the skin (or prevent loose skin)) - i suppose a simple Google search should supply you with a list of these foods :-)
I've always had a pooch. I've never had a nice, flat tummy so maybe I'm not the best example. After 4 kids, weight gain and a c-section, plus never being very physically fit until recently, it is now the pooch from **** and I think there is no hope of it ever going away without surgical intervention.
I've lost around 40 pounds already, and the belly is shrinking without sagging and no skin fold. I have around 40 more to go.
I think how tight the area becomes (or how quickly it tightens) will depend highly on your age, and your body type. I've always had the pooch and I'll always have the pooch. A formerly flat tummied person may see different results. Now I'm in my 40s and I doubt that area will ever be really nice and tight, but I know it will shrink without leaving behind a giant, sagging skin fold.
I've lost 6 inches off my lower belly so far and no sign of loose skin there yet.. as everyone else said everyone is different but I'd say keep exercising and that will help.
When I went all the way down to 108, I still had a tiny pooch on my lower belly. I think it will always be there. -- I think the muscles split during pregnancy and the only way to cure that pooch is to have surgery
BUT I gladly take the little fat deposit and stretch out skin than the BIG fat deposit I was carrying about.
I am at 144 pounds right now and honestly, just within the last 3 or 4 pounds I started dropping major weight of my tummy area. All of a sudden I have flattish tummy (There is still atleast 10-15 pounds of fat, but still).
Thanks for all of your replies. I got on the scale this am and I am now 149.4..but I don't get excited until I stay there for at least a week or so. I am hoping by the time I get close to 130s my tummy will go down some more.
I've lost 38 lbs so far and 6" off my waist with no loose skin yet. But I still have 50 lbs to go so who knows what will happen then. I'd still rather have the skin flap (if I have to) than be fat. If I have one and it really bothers me, I'll have it removed surgically.
Now that I am close to my goal weight, I have started to work more on my abs and focusing more on toning when working out. I think that my stomach will flatten a bit more as I get to my goal but I have a feeling I'll need to do some work on it to get into a bikini.
A lot depends on your body type and where it stores fat. Sometimes it's in the middle and sometimes it's the hips/thighs area. Cardio exercises are the best way to lose fat all over, as spot-reducing doesn't work. I'll bet that when you're at goal your stomach will look fine.
I feel like I have heard that the rate of loss also makes a difference... ie, if you're losing really fast then your skin doesn't have time to spring back?
I'm not sure if that's true. But some tummy exercises should definitely help I think.
